Construction Assistant

About Your Role: As a Construction Assistant at Dollar Tree’s corporate office, you’ll provide essential support to multiple Construction Project Managers overseeing new store construction projects nationwide. Acting as a central point of coordination between internal teams, vendors, landlords, and General Contractors, you'll help ensure materials are ordered accurately, project schedules stay on track, and critical documentation is maintained throughout the construction process. Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Project & Vendor Coordination

  • Support Construction Project Managers throughout the lifecycle of new store construction projects
  • Order and communicate project material requirements to vendors using Lucernex and Ariba systems
  • Coordinate with vendors, General Contractors, and Project Managers to resolve scheduling, delivery, and installation issues
  • Identify and escalate material, vendor, and project concerns as needed
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new Project Managers, vendors, and contractors on company systems and processes

Construction Administration

  • Process Purchase Orders (POs), change orders, accruals, and material chargeback reconciliations
  • Accurately code vendor requisitions according to established accounting classifications
  • Review, distribute, and track construction memos and urgent change notices, ensuring timely posting to company systems
  • Track project activity and timelines, ensuring accurate follow-up from project initiation through completion
  • Create facility records and close projects within company systems once stores are confirmed open

Lease & Financial Support

  • Submit Tenant Allowance (TA) requests to landlords with required supporting documentation
  • Track landlord communications and Tenant Allowance payments
  • Escalate outstanding issues or payment delays and support audit preparation activities
  • Review lease documents as necessary to ensure accurate processing of Tenant Allowance requests

Documentation & Communication

  • Manage a high volume of daily communications while maintaining professionalism and responsiveness
  • Read and interpret basic floor plans and layout drawings to support project planning and order accuracy
  • Maintain accurate project records, reports, and documentation
  • Develop familiarity with store fixture types and vendor relationships to support project execution

Your Required Skills and Experience:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • 2+ years of administrative, construction support, project coordination, or vendor management experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business demands
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Professional demeanor and ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external partners

Preferred Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the construction industry
  • Construction administrative experience
  • Familiarity with store construction, fixturing, planning, operations, or merchandising
  • Experience with Lucernex, Ariba, Accruent, or similar project management and procurement systems
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and floor plans
