Job Summary This job performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physicians’ orders and department policy. Performs all procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapist or Respiratory Therapy Technician. Job duties will be assigned based on student's clinical progression and competency validation.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's values: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

  • Performs respiratory therapy procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and the Respiratory Care Guidelines (RT Consult). May not take verbal orders or modify orders.

  • Documents and charges for respiratory care procedures and provides patient and family education as appropriate.

  • Communicates well with supervisors, therapists and technicians. Provides a complete and accurate report

  • May perform blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results accurately

  • Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Currently enrolled in an approved school for respiratory care; OR new/recent graduates of a school of respiratory care who are awaiting credentialing.

  • Experience - No experience required.
