Newtown Savings Bank is seeking a Senior Vice President, Technology and Operations, to serve as the Bank’s seniormost executive responsible for leading technology and operations teams that include the Customer Service Center, Information Technology, E-services/digital banking, and Deposit Operations departments. Accountable for the Bank’s performance and positioning related to all aspects of technology and operations under their scope of responsibility. Member of the Executive Committee with strong organization-wide mindset and the ability and mindset to contribute on both a strategic and tactical level.

This is an onsite opportunity at our corporate office in Newtown, CT. The role has a remote option of one day per week.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute technology and operations strategy, ensuring that systems, processes and infrastructure effectively support business objectives.

  • Balance innovation with risk management while maintaining a strong focus on operational excellence, customer experience, regulatory compliance, operational resilience and cost.

  • Develop and maintain a strong organizational competency related to selecting the right technologies, deploying them effectively and efficiently, and realizing the intended benefits. Leverage these competencies into a sustainable competitive advantage relative to similarly situated financial institutions.

  • Lead, mentor and develop high-performing teams. Oversee the Customer Service Center, Information Technology, E-services/digital banking, and Deposit Operations departments as well as such other responsibilities as may be assigned. Foster a collaborative, accountable and customer-focused culture that is consistent with and supportive of corporate cultural initiatives and priorities. Engage, develop and motivate team members.

  • Ensure that efficiency within your functional areas of responsibility is consistent with or better than peer organizations and other industry competitors by remaining abreast of industry trends and acting when appropriate. Oversee the identification and implementation of efficiency opportunities within your area and in collaboration with other areas.

  • As a member of the Bank’s Executive Committee, work alongside the CEO and leadership team to define strategy and champion collaboration and goal alignment across the organization. Be a visible and committed organizational leader. Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive team and Board of Directors on matters related to technology, operations and digital banking.

  • Own the Bank’s technology road map and payments strategy, developing processes to create and maintain these while incorporating input from leaders across the organization as well as knowledge of industry and technological trends. Ensure appropriate integration of technology-related strategies with the Bank’s budget, strategic planning, and technology governance processes.

  • Develop and deliver an appropriate range of Cash Management and Payment solutions, including paper, card, electronic, online, mobile and emerging technologies designed to meet customer needs and drive profitability, retention and growth.

  • Maintain a customer-focused mindset that results in an outstanding customer experience and the expansion of relationships. Ensure that both customer-facing and back office teams receive appropriate support and deliver consistently high levels of service consistent with the Bank’s strategies.

  • Lead, participate in, and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to ensure consistently strong delivery of services. Negotiate contracts and other agreements as appropriate.

  • Identify, maintain and manage to a set of Key Performance Indicators that capture levels of success related to desired outcomes and provide early warning signs of potential problems.

  • Collaborate with internal and external risk management professionals to ensure that the Bank is operating in a safe and sound manner on an ongoing basis.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

An undergraduate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience with a minimum of 15 years of related experience in the financial services industry. Strong ability and experience leading significant initiatives, managing vendor relationships, demonstrating organizational leadership orientation and engaging, motivating, and developing staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Results oriented, highly organized and directed leader with strong working knowledge of the financial/banking industry with diverse range of knowledge and experience leading back-office operations, information technology, business analytics, ebanking and e-commerce verticals, strategic planning, and project management. Demonstrated experience defining technology architecture used in the financial services industry with strong communication and influencing skills. Highly motivated with proven ability to lead and to work effectively on a team. Strong management skills and financial background with the ability to define/implement large scale technology projects/systems and processes throughout the bank to sustain continued growth and profitability with ability to balance the need for operational efficiency with nimbleness and innovation. Poses strong financial and analytic skills with excellent communication and management skills.
