Admission to the West and East Buildings, Sculpture Garden, special exhibitions, and public programs is always free. Responsibilities This position is located in the Facilities Management Paint Shop. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain and repair the plastered surfaces of all interior and exterior areas of all buildings of the National Gallery of Art campus. Duties for this position include Mixing, applying and finishing of plaster work on a variety of backgrounds such as metal, wood, drywall and masonry surfaces. Repairing, spackling, painting, and sanding partitioning, moldings, panels and covers. Taping, sanding and finishing drywall joints on walls and ceilings. Accurately replicates existing architectural moldings and reproduces historical moldings needed for installations. Performing the full range of plastering and drywall finishing functions in exhibit areas and galleries. When working around works of art, incumbent must exercise caution, constant attentiveness and care so that art is not damaged. Selecting chemicals, painting products, and equipment that will not have adverse effects on the art, facility, or personnel. Properly maintaining all tools and equipment related to the performance of the work. Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the WG-09 level in the Federal service or private sector; mixing, applying, and finishing of plaster work on a variety of backgrounds (i.e. metal, wood, drywall), masonry services, taping/finishing joints when repairing wall board AND performing drywall work. OPM Qualifications Standard: Federal Wage System Qualifications Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the WG-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the WG-10 level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
