Full job description

Job Duties

The Veteran Services Driver provides transportation for local veterans to medical appointments and claims-related visits scheduled by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This role includes completing required initial and annual driver training, downloading and printing trip schedules, and operating designated Veterans Vans or County fleet vehicles, often during early mornings, extended hours, weekends, or holidays. The driver performs pre‑ and post‑operational vehicle inspections, refuels vehicles, washes and cleans them as needed, and reports mechanical issues to the Veterans Service Officer. Duties also include assisting passengers safely into and out of the vehicle, properly securing seat belts and wheelchairs, maintaining confidentiality of veterans’ appointments and health information, navigating routes using GPS, and providing required operational updates via cellular phone throughout each trip. The position requires sound judgment, professionalism, and reliable communication while ensuring safe, timely, and supportive transportation for veterans.

Minimum Education Required

The minimum education required for the Veteran Services Driver position is a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must also have prior responsible work experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the role.

Minimum Experience Required

Applicants should have previous experience that demonstrates responsible vehicle operation and the ability to work independently. Preference is given to individuals with commercial passenger driving experience, experience operating handicapped-accessible vehicles, or familiarity with driving in adverse weather conditions.
