Full job description

Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description

The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various tasks including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires expertise in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and maintaining accurate patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

  • Label and centrifuge specimens as per test order requirements.

  • Record maintenance data and ensure proper decontamination procedures.

  • Update patient information accurately.

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

  • Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients.

  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and ensure 100% accuracy.

  • Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.

  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

  • Attend annual department trainings.

  • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Phlebotomy certification valid in the state of employment.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 2-4 years of experience in blood draws and specimen processing.

  • Proficiency in venipuncture techniques.

  • Experience with pediatric blood draws.

  • Strong customer service skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CPT coding.

  • Ability to handle multiple specimen types including urine and fecal collections.

Work Environment

The role operates in a primary care setting, catering to patients of all ages. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Falls Church, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
