Full job description

Controller Greptile is an AI code reviewer that catches bugs and anti-patterns in pull requests with complete context of the codebase. Hundreds of top software companies, from YC startups to big tech, and teams in finance, healthcare, and defense, use Greptile to merge PRs faster and catch more bugs. Greptile reviews 5B lines of code every month for 22,000+ customers. A new repo starts using Greptile every 2 minutes. We also uniquely offer self-hosted, air-gapped deployments for enterprises across defense, financial services, and healthcare. This is Greptile’s first accounting hire. You will report to the Head of Finance and own accounting end to end, from closing the books and writing policies to implementing an AI-native ERP. You will take us from outsourced bookkeeping to an audit-ready accounting function, then build the team as the company scales. Responsibilities

  • Build and own the monthly and quarterly close, including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, flux analysis, and financial statements

  • Own revenue recognition across self-serve, enterprise, and usage-based contracts, including Greptile’s ASC 606 policy and supporting technical memos

  • Set Greptile’s technical accounting positions across equity, leases, capitalized software, R&D capitalization, and complex deal structures

  • Build the accounting for compute and inference spend, including prepaid commitments, consumption accruals, and gross margin reporting

  • Lead the implementation of an AI-native ERP and its integrations across billing, banking, cards, payroll, and cap table management

  • Own tax and compliance, including corporate tax, sales tax, R&D credits, 1099s, and state filings

  • Run accounting operations across AP, AR, collections, payroll accounting, expenses, and treasury

  • Get Greptile audit-ready and lead our first external audit

  • Build the accounting team as the company grows

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller, Assistant Controller, Director, or Senior Accounting Manager scope at a high-growth technology company

  • CPA with a foundation in Big Four audit, ideally within a technology practice

  • Deep ASC 606 experience in a subscription and consumption-based business

  • Experience owning the close and leading or supporting an external audit

  • Experience building an accounting function, or a major part of one, from the ground up

  • Comfortable writing and defending technical accounting memos for complex transactions

  • Hands-on ERP implementation experience

  • You use AI seriously in your own work and have strong opinions about where it can improve accounting

Nice to have

  • Experience at a company with both self-serve and enterprise sales motions

  • Experience as an accounting lead through a Series B to E fundraise or IPO diligence

  • SQL proficiency or enough comfort with data to validate numbers at the source

You’ll like working here if

  • You want to build an accounting function from zero instead of inheriting one

  • You want to be the technical authority on the answer while remaining close to the work

  • The speed and responsibility of a high-growth AI company are exciting to you

  • You want a path to CAO and are willing to earn it by building the function yourself

This role is based in San Francisco and requires at least three days per week in the office.
