Full job description

This position is open to current Colorado residents only.

Civil and Forensic Mental Health services (CFMH) operates Colorado’s two mental health hospitals, the Forensic Services Division, the Division of Mental Health Transitional Living, and now the Outpatient Services Division (OSDV). The office provides a continuum of mental health care for both Civil and Forensic clients. Civil clients are individuals who are committed by a civil court into the care of the Colorado Department of Human Services because they have serious and persistent mental health conditions. Forensic clients include those who are charged with a crime and have a mental or developmental disability that prevents them from assisting in their own defense or rationally understanding the criminal court proceedings, and those who have been charged with a crime but found not guilty by reason of insanity. CFMH works across the legal system to provide evaluations, treatment and case management for these clients. Outpatient Services is the newest part of this continuum, working to support clients stepping down or being diverted from hospitals and jails, and giving them the care they need in the community.

Weekly Hybrid Working Arrangements Minimum 2 days in the office and Maximum 3 days of remote work Monday - Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM This position will comply with the Civil and Forensic Mental Health - Outpatient Services current working arrangements. Please note: Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

What you'll be doing:

Court Work Lead with Coordination and Patient Advocacy:• Leads work with courts on behalf of the Division, current clients, as well as clients being actively referred intoOSDV.

  • This includes leading the Division’s physical presence in courts, contact with clients and prospective clients, coordination and involvement with the treatment team, close working collaboration with the utilization review team, and engagement with DAs, PDs, and others involved in the criminal legal system related to court and client needs.
  • This will include leading Division preparation of certification documents and meeting deadlines for certifications, leading active advocacy for clients as they are deemed appropriate to have certifications removed, leading advocacy for clients to support movement into outpatient level of care, and leading support for the treatment team as liaison and pacesetter.
  • Will drive to and from courts, jails, hospitals, and other locations, as needed.
  • May travel to attend training, court hearing, transport patients to appointments and other related activities.
  • Lead worker over 2 FTE; this position trains the staff, provides regular feedback about work product and provides input on performance plans and evaluations.

Care Coordination Lead:• Leading the work of care coordination of OSDV clients, including leading the work of clients moving into and out of Outpatient Services, working with transition planning, coordinating care, and aligning this work with court activities and advocacy by coordinating internally and externally with clinical teams, leadership, and others, leading this to comply with and respond to court orders..

  • Works closely internally with UM, Quality, and Leadership to support the client’s successful transition into and from their episode of care, ensuring that there is continuity in support, medications, and alignment with the Court process, as it applies to the individual client.

Documentation:• Document in approved electronic database for all individual and group sessions in approved Clinic format.

  • Group documentations must be individualized, reflecting how each client participated in each group session.

  • All documentation must be completed in no more than 5 business days, including day of treatment provision.

  • Document incident reports as indicated, in no more than 24 hours. Document calls to guardians and client managers.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Other duties as assigned include ad hoc activities, in-clinic crisis response, group therapy coverage, milieu support, etc.

Seven (7) years of experience providing behavioral/mental health services as a social worker, psychologist, behavioral health professional or social service professional field. OR Education and Experience: A combination of education in psychology, social work, behavioral health, social services or a related field and/or experience providing behavioral/mental health services as a social worker, psychologist, behavioral health professional or social services professional equal to seven (7) years. Special Qualifications: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) or Licensed Psychologist (LP).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with individuals with serious mental illness

  • Experience with the criminal legal system, courts, and/or 27-65 and BHA rules for involuntary treatment.

  • Experience with or deep knowledge of mental health treatment and processes.

  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

  • Motor Vehicle Check , if the employee will drive a state-owned vehicle, either in an on-going capacity while performing their normal day-to-day job duties OR on occasion for training/meetings/client visits/etc.

  • Must possess a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License or an non-restricted U.S. Driver's License for positions within 30 miles of the CO state border

  • Out-of-State Driver’s License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License within 30 days of employment start date.

  • Other Conditions of Employment specific to Program

  • Current/Valid and unrestricted US Driver’s License

  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: May be exposed to bodily fluids or caustic chemicals

  • May travel to attend training, court hearing, transport patients to appointments and other related activities.

  • 2-step TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hires

  • Annual influenza vaccination

  • Other vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado

  • This position will drive a state fleet or non-state fleet vehicle for State business purposes.

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

  • Disclose that information on the application.

  • Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.

  • Provide your employee number from your prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation:Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
