Job Description

Our client is seeking a Director of Preconstruction to lead front-end planning efforts for Mission Critical infrastructure projects, with a focus on wet and dry utility installations supporting data center development. This individual will own estimating, procurement strategy, cost planning, vendor engagement, and project readiness activities before execution. The ideal candidate combines strong construction estimating experience with an understanding of procurement, scheduling, constructability reviews, and commercial risk analysis.

  • Lead estimating efforts for Mission Critical construction pursuits
  • Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and owner requirements
  • Develop detailed budgets and cost breakdowns across project scopes
  • Perform constructability reviews alongside construction and operations teams
  • Identify scope gaps, risks, and pricing opportunities during preconstruction
  • Develop procurement strategies and coordinate vendor engagement efforts
  • Track labor and material pricing trends and assess commercial impacts
  • Create bid packages and align subcontractor/vendor scopes
  • Support schedule development and project launch planning
  • Partner with Business Development on proposal strategy, RFP reviews, pre-bid meetings, and client presentations
  • Support project handoff from preconstruction into operations and execution teams

Skills and Requirements

  • 7+ years of construction, preconstruction, estimating, project planning, or scheduling experience
  • 3+ years of leadership or management experience
  • Experience supporting Mission Critical or Data Center construction projects
  • Strong estimating and quantity takeoff experience
  • Ability to review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and owner requirements
  • Experience developing budgets and cost estimates for civil, electrical, and structural scopes
  • Experience managing procurement planning and long-lead material strategies
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycles, construction methodologies, and contract structures
  • Experience coordinating across operations, engineering, estimating, procurement, and business development teams
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, Bluebeam, Navisworks, or similar construction software
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field
  • PMP certification
  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP)
  • Background in utility construction, power infrastructure, or large-scale site development
  • Experience supporting competitive proposals and design-build pursuits
