About the Role

Gopuff is looking for a Corporate Counsel to take real ownership of our litigation docket and gig/employment practice, with direct mentorship, high visibility, and the kind of hands-on, senior-level work that fast-tracks your development. Own litigation. Be the go-to on gig/employment. Build a function. Accelerate your career.

Why This Role

Real ownership, direct investment in your development, and the kind of senior-level experience that accelerates your career. In this role, you’ll:

  • Take on real responsibility for litigation and employment matters from day one

  • Build the toolkit of a senior legal leader, from strategy and outside counsel management to budget ownership and executive presence, by owning the work, with direct mentorship from the VP, Legal.

  • Gain significant visibility to the General Counsel and senior leadership on high-impact matters

  • Access generalist growth opportunities (commercial contracting, product counseling, strategic work) to build broader exposure

What You'll Do: Litigation Docket

  • Own the litigation docket (employment, commercial, and other matters) from intake through resolution

  • Direct outside counsel on strategy, discovery, motion practice, and settlement

  • Handle appropriate matters in-house

Litigation Portfolio Strategy & Management

  • Take on strategic and operational management of the litigation function, ensuring matters are appropriately prioritized and resourced

  • Manage the function strategically: prioritization, outside counsel selection and performance, budgets, and reporting to senior leadership

Employment Counseling & Gig Economy Workforce Matters

  • Counsel HR and Operations on the full range of employment matters: performance, investigations, terminations, wage-and-hour, accommodations

  • Become the company expert on independent contractor classification, gig economy workforce issues, and related policy

Broader Legal Work (Generalist Growth Areas)

  • Support commercial contracting and other business agreements

  • Provide product and operational counseling on new initiatives and evolving business models

  • Take ownership of discrete projects in evolving areas of the business

Who You Are

  • 4-6+ years of legal experience, including at least 2 years of hands-on litigation work (discovery, motion practice, outside counsel management)

  • Litigation experience from a firm, in-house, or government

  • Employment counseling experience is valued but not required

  • Experience with independent contractor, gig economy, or worker classification issues is a plus

  • Exposure to additional practice areas (e.g., commercial contracts, corporate, real estate, product, or regulatory) is a plus

  • JD from an accredited law school

  • Admitted and in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar

  • Hybrid position with 3 days in office at our Spring Garden HQ

How You Work

  • Ownership mentality: you see issues, you handle them

  • Comfortable operating independently in a lean, fast-moving team

  • Hard hat and a lunch pail mentality; with ability to think like a GC

  • Strong judgment and the ability to translate legal risk into business decisions
