The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Technical Training Instructor performing all classroom and hands on/performance training activities and as a subject matter expert for curriculum development, revisions, and/or modifications of technical training courses in the Heating/ Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refigeration (HVAC/R) Schoolhouse.
Duties
Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced levels. Research, develop, revise and recommend updates to Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration course materials in accordance with established learning objectives. Monitors, evaluates, and documents student progress and performance. Inputs necessary data into the Technical Training Management System (TTMS). Maintains professional and technical expertise. Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instructor series 1712. *** THIS IS A CCAF POSITION ***For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions only: Section 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcript. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a Master's, or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related to the position of a Training Instructor. My education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of a Training Instructor. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of specialized experience and education as described above. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education to meet the qualifications of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of wide range of principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. 2. Knowledge of skills in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration at a practical level to include basic and advanced direct expansion and split system HVAC/R systems, common tool usage, piping, fittings, valves, tubing systems, brazing and soldering, acetylene and oxyacetylene equipment, electrical troubleshooting, gas and oil furnace, radiant heat systems, air compressors, and Environmental Protection Agency Certification. 3. Knowledge of measurement principles, techniques, and instructional design utilizing computer applications. 4. Skills in written and oral communication. 5. Ability to analyze problems and develop appropriate solutions and establish and maintain effective working relationships. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
