The Recreation and Aquatics Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more -- including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities. With nearly 300 regular employees and a budget of nearly $40 million annually, Recreation is a major operation with significant impact on the communities we serve. In addition to our current operations, we also strive to constantly improve the ways we serve Seattle’s residents, specifically through implementation of the SPR Strategic Plan, innovation in our facility staffing and programming approaches, and learning from national best practices and quality standards. This position coordinates and leads the Rec ‘N The Streets (RNTS) program of the Seattle Parks and Recreation Outdoor Activation Mobile Recreation Office, under the general supervision of the Senior Recreation Program Coordinator. The Rec ‘N The Streets Program Coordinator plans, organizes, and coordinates the development and implementation of recreation activities into programs and facilities within various districts (approximately 40 locations). This position assists/guides staff in developing programming ideas and implementation plans; and supervises the activities of program staff, contractors, volunteers, and occasionally youth employees. The Rec ‘N The Streets Coordinator meets with internal and external stakeholders, community members and community-based organizations to develop and implement programs that meet the expressed needs of diverse, and/or traditionally underserved populations in various communities within the City of Seattle. This position provides technical expertise to the recreation division for city-wide programs. This position is expected to meet time sensitive deadlines, monitor and track budget expenses, equipment acquisition, vehicle repair and maintenance associated with the Rec ‘N the Streets program.
- Manage the daily operational logistics, planning, and implementation of the RNTS program. This includes on-site training and monitoring staff performance.
- Supervise 12 permanent Recreation Leaders in off-peak season and up to 10 additional temporary Recreation Leaders during peak season. Oversee the organization of special events managing the staffing and equipment schedule.
- Coordinate and evaluate RNTS Programs for compliance with the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies programming standards (CAPRA). Set goals and guidelines that incorporate adult and youth program quality, recreation success domains, targets, outcomes and Compliance with City Policy.
- Develop both internal and external reports utilizing outcome frameworks, compiling and analyzing data from participant satisfaction surveys and feedback forms, that informs new programming and modify existing programs.
- Participate in preparation of training and professional development of Jr Team members.
- Meet with Neighborhood and Community groups to develop contracts and partnerships with mutually advantages’ goals.
- Responsible for maintaining program revenue goals, administering, and monitoring RNTS budget while maintaining inventory control.
- Recruit, train, and evaluate subordinate staff; and recommend selection of staff.
- Develop policies and procedures for RNTS activations.
- Respond to comments, questions, and complaints from program participants.
- Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
Requires one year of experience in developing and coordinating recreation programs, including two years of supervision experience and a Bachelor's degree in Recreation Program Administration, Recreation or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or work experience which provides the ability to perform the work of the class). Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Effective team builder that can adapt quickly with excellent problem-solving skills.
- Two years of experience in event/program planning and project management
- Two years of experience working with diverse communities and organizations.
- Strong and effective ability to communicate information clearly in written and oral styles.
- Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks, changing priorities and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Skilled at training and development of youth and adults
- Possess basic technology competencies in video conferencing, project management applications, email, word processing, and spreadsheet editors.
Special Working Conditions and Work Schedule:
- Winter/Fall: Tuesday thru Saturday 9-5pm.
- Spring/Summer 2 split 5hr days and 3 -10 hour days 9am-9pm.
- Most work is performed in an office setting but occasional site visits and special event oversite in outdoor conditions are required.
