Senior Software Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the MBA application team and help modernize and extend a customer-facing reporting and analytics platform. This role focuses on the MBA web application and its supporting Java and Spring Boot services, including server-rendered user experiences, REST APIs, search-driven capabilities, integrations, security, and cloud deployment. You will work within a mature application and collaborate with Product Management, UX, QA, Data Engineering, platform teams, Technical Customer Support, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable and intuitive customer capabilities. You will be expected to understand existing application behavior, lead technical designs, implement changes safely, improve automated testing, troubleshoot complex production issues, and incrementally modernize the platform. This role does not own MBA batch ETL or data-engineering pipelines. However, you will collaborate closely with Data Engineering and upstream system teams to define contracts, validate end-to-end behavior, and resolve issues spanning the application, APIs, search indexes, databases, and data layers.

The pay for this position is between $65-$71.00/hr

Skills and Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with senior-level ownership of production Java applications.
• Strong Java 8+ and Spring Boot/Spring MVC experience, including REST APIs, configuration, dependency injection, and framework or dependency upgrades.
• Hands-on web application experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and server-side templating such as Freemarker or equivalent.
• Ability to enhance large, mature codebases with complex business logic, cross-component dependencies, and minimal production disruption.
• Experience with Elasticsearch or comparable search technology for indexing, searching, and retrieving application data within user-facing workflows—not as a traditional ELK logging stack—plus SQL/relational databases, secure coding, and application-side data validation.
• Experience with automated testing, Git-based workflows, CI/CD, production troubleshooting, logs, metrics, traces, and release practices.
• Strong design, documentation, Agile delivery, and communication skills across product, engineering, QA, data, and platform teams.
