Full job description
About TypeSafe TypeSafe AI is an AI lab building machine-native intelligence infrastructure for automation, designed to make decisions within software by combining the intelligence of LLMs with the efficiency and reliability of code into a new shape of AI: System One Models. Based in San Francisco, TypeSafe AI recently launched its first public model, Jev. While others chase benchmarks and academic puzzles, we’ve been quietly rethinking the LLM stack from first principles, building a new kind of general frontier model designed for real-world reliability, decision-making, and autonomy in production. We’re a small, fast-moving team from OpenAI, Google Brain, and Meta/FAIR, backed by top-tier investors. Since mid-2024, we’ve been engineering the foundation for what comes after the current “state-of-the-art”: a model that actually gets things done. About the role We’re hiring someone to work across finance and business planning. You’ll work on our financial forecasts, compute spending, pricing, and investment decisions. You’ll maintain the financial model, understand what’s driving the numbers, and help us decide what to do next. This is a broad role with substantial responsibility early on. You’ll own the day-to-day analysis and recurring financial work, working closely with company leadership on priorities and decisions. Some projects will have a clear starting point. Others will require you to work out what information we need and where to find it. What you’ll do
-
Own the financial model and forecasts. Keep our plans for revenue, hiring, compute, and other expenses current. Show how changes affect cash and runway.
-
Track spending and explain changes. Work with accounting and budget owners to understand actual results, investigate differences from the plan, and update our assumptions.
-
Understand compute costs. Work with research and engineering to forecast training and inference spending, compare vendor proposals, and evaluate capacity commitments.
-
Help evaluate business decisions. Analyze pricing, customer economics, hiring plans, and other investments. Explain the alternatives and recommend a course of action.
-
Prepare financial reporting. Put together clear updates for leadership, board meetings, and investor discussions.
-
Improve how the work gets done. Make recurring reporting more reliable, automate manual work where useful, and take on new finance and business projects as they arise.
We are looking for people who
-
Have a few years of experience in investment banking, strategic finance, or FP&A. This could be your first operating role after banking, or you may already have spent time in startup finance.
-
Have strong financial modeling skills and a good understanding of financial statements and cash flow.
-
Care about the details. You check your work, investigate discrepancies, and flag assumptions that aren’t well supported.
-
Can make progress without a detailed brief, including finding the right people, asking questions, and following through.
-
Communicate clearly. You can explain what changed, why it matters, and what you think we should do.
-
Are interested in the business itself, including the recurring work of keeping forecasts and reporting accurate.
Experience with cloud infrastructure, usage-based businesses, or compute costs would be useful. So would SQL or Python. Neither is required. You should be willing to learn how our technology works and how that translates into costs and revenue. Life at TypeSafe We’re a small, flat, close-knit team working to make intelligence dependable enough to become part of everyday software. We work fully in person, five days a week, from our San Francisco office near Embarcadero station. We love what we do and care deeply about the work. We strive for excellence and craftsmanship and won’t stop until we get there. When the team wins, we all win, and we enjoy collaborating and inspiring each other to grow as a team and as individuals. We value emotional honesty, kindness, and bringing your whole self to work. We build machines; we don’t try to be machines. We want TypeSafe to be the place where you do the most impactful work of your career and help define our future as a company. We provide
