Do you have experience delivering secure, high-quality business systems?
In this dynamic role, you will provide enterprise data engineering, automation, integration, and technical HRIS support within the Information Technology Services (ITS) Division.
We are seeking a candidate to build and maintain HR, HRIS, and Safety data pipelines.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, this position:
Data management for HRIS and Safety systems.
- Design, build, and maintain curated HR, HRIS, and Safety datasets, including SQL views, stored procedures, validated models, and structured extracts.
- Ingest, transform, reconcile, and publish reliable data across Workday, HRMS, Safety platforms, and ITS applications (e.g. Total Time).
- Build validated datasets and reporting models supporting SSRS/Power BI dashboards for operational and strategic analytics.
- Maintain documentation of data lineage, definitions, and mappings.
Scripting and coding support.
- Develop automated ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL Server, SSIS, C#, PowerShell, and Python.
- Create automation scripts to streamline HR/Safety operational processes.
- Support inbound/outbound integrations into and out of Workday, HRMS, Safety systems, and enterprise data platforms (e.g. HRMS).
- Maintain version-controlled repositories of integration and automation code.
Product Support.
- Provide full technical Workday configuration support (business processes, calculated fields, routing logic, module settings), with final approval by the HRIS Product Owner.
- Translate HR/Safety business requirements into technical specifications, workflows, data models, and integration logic.
- Collaborate with HR, Safety, PMO/BA, ITS, and vendors on technical design, configuration alignment, and system-wide impacts.
- Contribute technical content for SOWs, vendor deliverable reviews, and change-support activities.
General IT support.
- Conduct multi-layer testing (unit, integration, regression, system, performance) for pipelines, configurations, and integrations.
- Support UAT cycles, validate business outcomes, and prepare deployment readiness evidence.
- Provide rapid incident response and long-term root-cause engineering for HRIS, Safety, and ITS data workflows.
- Document issues, fixes, improvements, and regression coverage.
- Change management processes.
Compliance, Security, and Governance.
- Enforce role-based access controls and secure data handling.
- Implement encryption, secure transfer protocols, and hardened interfaces.
- Validate integrations and configuration changes against privacy, security, and data protection requirements.
- Monitor for anomalous behavior or unauthorized activity and respond appropriately.
Working Conditions: Work setting: Duties are performed in a (work/home) office setting. The work site for this position is the Olympia Natural Resources Building headquarters office. This position requires extensive computer use; involves sitting/standing for extended periods of time.
Schedule: Typically, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Requires some flexibility in work schedule to perform IT system maintenance/testing activities or to respond to unforeseen system problems or outages.
Travel requirements: Occasional travel is required to attend/participate in training, meetings, and professional conferences.
Customer Interactions: Contacts include Direct supervisor and other Scientific Data Systems staff; Science and Fish Management Division managers, biologists, and technical support staff; ITS support staff; IT, Wildlife, and Habitat Program GIS staff; and professional colleagues outside of DFW. The purpose of contacts is to ensure the project goals are being met, and that scientifically correct methods of collecting, processing, and summarizing of biological data collected are conducted.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications:
Option 1: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work Information Technology, HR, or Safety. And Four (4) years of recent professional Information Technology experience or related experience. And Demonstrated recent professional experience in relational database design, Structured Query Language (SQL), programming and scripting (Arcade, Python, JavaScript), data access pattern designs.
Option 2: Eight (8) years of recent professional Information Technology experience or related experience. And Demonstrated recent professional experience in relational database design, Structured Query Language (SQL), programming and scripting (Arcade, Python, JavaScript), data access pattern designs.
Special Requirement/Condition of Employment: Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) background check.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess one or more of the following:
- Experience in using principles and practices of linear referencing to manage event data tied to routed spatial data layers.
- Information Technology experience such as consulting, analyzing, designing, programming, developing computer applications, managing and directing projects, and providing end-user or technical support.
- Knowledge of fish biology, ecology, and natural resource management.
- Experience with use of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) units, and other data logging devices) for designing and deploying custom field survey data collection solutions.
- Professional experience preparing and presenting highly technical information, concepts, or IT applications to both technical and non-technical audiences.
