Scope of Job
Provide clearly identified and easily accessible therapeutic mental health support services that address the mental and emotional well-being of students (clients) and families representing multiple schools in multiple districts. Provide support to district internship team, RtI/ MTSS key personnel, and provide school-based mental health services (i.e., counseling services) at campus during transition year and high-risk cases to improve K-12 students’ positive mental health.
Description of Duties
-
Utilizing various assessment instruments and techniques, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, to assist in diagnosing mental health conditions and determining appropriate intervention strategies.

Identify and treat mental health/behavioral health conditions through the implementation of planning, clinical documentation and treatment plans and monitoring of progress/goals.

Provide crisis intervention with students, families and campus staff by providing immediate assessment, triage and therapeutic assistance to minimize the impact of trauma to students.

Review the completed/conducted assessment for suicide, non-suicidal self-harm and harm to others that interns have completed. Collaborate with key parties to develop campus, student and home safety plans.

Review client data regularly to ensure that treatment and documentation is aligned with professional standards and clinical best practice.

Guard client confidentiality by being knowledgeable of and adhering to both FERPA and HIPAA regulations.

Provide referrals for services such as medical care, educational intervention, psychiatric treatment, etc. when needed and case management services to increase referred client/family participation in services.

Provide mental health consultation and be primary contact for school and district staff regarding Response to Intervention (RtI)/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support ( MTSS ), and Student Support Teams ( SST ).

Provide ongoing feedback to referring parties, school personnel and clients.

Assess mental health and social service needs to provide successful re-entry/transition to home campus for students returning from DAEP , behavioral health hospitals and residential treatment placements.

Develop and deliver professional development and community outreach topics on mental health wellness, social emotional development, suicidality, threat assessments, behavior management, depression, anxiety and ADHD .

Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, professional development and training to increase clinical skills and improve outcomes for critical cases.

Complete, document, and submit all discipline-specific requirements for maintaining licensure through applicable State of Texas licensing boards.

Comply with departmental policies, legal requirements, and professional, ethical, and quality of care standards.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Master’s degree in a mental health related field.

Licenses/Certifications
Must be licensed or certified in a mental health discipline in the State of Texas or hold a temporary/conditional professional counselor license and are actively working toward licensure such as LCSW , LMSW , LPC , or School Psychologist (Proof of progress will need to be submitted to the supervisor every 6 months).

Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Ability to set and adjust priorities; handles a high volume of work with frequent interruptions; works independently and in a flexible manner to meet changing business requirements. Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to speak and write clearly and concisely. Seeks to listen and understand views and comments of others. Ability to work cooperatively, collaboratively and effectively with client, families, staff and the community. May require ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours in order to accommodate parents’ work and students’ school schedules. Experience working in a fast-paced environment requiring ability to manage competing priorities including referrals, crisis response and client treatment.
Job will require ability to drive a car for travel between locations for purposes of consultation, training, meetings, or on-site demonstrations to Local Education Agencies/School Districts located in the RGV within the Region One ESC : Brownsville ISD , Edcouch-Elsa ISD , Harlingen CISD , McAllen ISD , Mission CISD , Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ( PSJA ) ISD , and Sharyland ISD whom the project has agreements with.
