Job Description
- Build and implement a comprehensive metrology and calibration program across the Warren facility.
- Establish standardized measurement, dimensional inspection, gauge-control, and calibration practices.
- Rebuild and improve the existing calibration process, including roles, responsibilities, documentation, traceability, and equipment controls.
- Lead, develop, and provide technical direction to a team of metrologists.
- Provide oversight for CMM programming, new CMM program proofouts, and dimensional inspection activities.
- Conduct correlation studies to ensure consistent results between internal CMMs and supplier measurement systems.
- Investigate and resolve measurement discrepancies involving suppliers, production, inspection, and MRB.
- Establish requirements for Measurement Systems Analysis, including Gauge R&R studies and measurement correlation studies.
- Develop process-control sheets, procedures, work instructions, measurement methods, and acceptance criteria.
- Create training programs for inspectors, operators, engineers, and quality personnel on gauge usage and measurement best practices.
- Establish competency and qualification standards for employees performing measurement and inspection activities.
- Manage calibration records, gauge records, equipment identification, calibration status, and measurement traceability.
- Coordinate internal and external calibration activities and monitor service-provider performance.
- Evaluate opportunities to bring appropriate calibration capabilities in-house.
- Establish and track metrology and calibration KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality and calibration standards.
- Partner collaboratively with employees working in a union manufacturing environment.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5–10 years of experience in metrology, calibration, dimensional inspection, or measurement systems.
- Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving a metrology or calibration program, not solely maintaining an established system.
- Previous supervisory or people-management experience.
- Strong knowledge of calibration systems, gauge control, dimensional inspection, and measurement traceability.
- Experience with CMM programming and/or CMM inspection methodologies.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation.
- Experience with Measurement Systems Analysis, including Gauge R&R and correlation studies.
- Understanding of measurement uncertainty, measurement capability, and traceability principles.
- ERP or MRP system experience.
- Knowledge of applicable standards, including ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/IEC 17025, and ANSI/NCSL Z540.3.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- ASQ or equivalent quality or metrology certification.
- Experience with IFS.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, industrial manufacturing, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience collaborating within a union manufacturing environment.
