Full job description

Job Duties

As a ServiceNow Architect, you design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions on the ServiceNow platform. You partner with product managers, business stakeholders, engineers, and platform leaders to translate business needs into technical solutions that align with established platform standards and enterprise architecture principles.

You are a senior technical leader and trusted advisor for solution design within your assigned domain or initiative. You provide architectural guidance to delivery teams, contribute to technical decisions, and ensure solutions are designed for long-term maintainability, scalability, security, and user adoption.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, not a people management position. You actively participate in solution design, architecture reviews, technical troubleshooting, and implementation activities while mentoring developers and engineers. You apply established architecture standards and governance practices, contribute improvements based on delivery experience, and escalate enterprise-level decisions to senior architecture leadership.

Our platform footprint continues to grow, and our solutions increasingly span multiple systems. We need an architect who can balance business needs with technical best practices, understand cross-platform integration patterns, and deliver solutions that fit within the broader enterprise technology landscape.

What you will do

Solution Architecture and Design

Design end-to-end ServiceNow solutions across workflows, integrations, data models, user experiences, security controls, and platform capabilities.

Translate business requirements into scalable technical architectures and practical implementation approaches.

Produce architecture diagrams, solution designs, integration specifications, data flows, and other technical documentation required for delivery and support.

Lead solution design workshops and collaborate with product, business, engineering, security, UX, and data stakeholders.

Ensure solutions align with approved reference architectures, platform standards, security requirements, and governance controls.

Identify technical risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs early and recommend mitigation strategies.

Technical Leadership and Delivery

Provide architectural guidance to engineering teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle.

Review technical designs, implementation approaches, and complex code or configuration changes for alignment with platform standards.

Mentor developers and engineers on ServiceNow architecture, development practices, integration patterns, and platform capabilities.

Help teams resolve complex technical challenges involving integrations, performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.

Promote reusable patterns and shared components across initiatives while avoiding unnecessary customization.

Remain close enough to implementation to validate key design decisions and support successful delivery.

Platform Architecture and Integrations

Design integrations between ServiceNow and enterprise systems using APIs, webhooks, event-driven patterns, middleware, and platform-native capabilities.

Define data flows, integration contracts, error-handling approaches, and system interaction models that support reliable business processes.

Collaborate with enterprise architecture, platform engineering, security, and data teams on cross-platform solution design.

Ensure systems of record retain appropriate ownership of authoritative data, approvals, and compliance processes.

Support platform modernization by applying scalable architecture patterns, automation, and configuration-first approaches.

AI and Intelligent Automation

Identify practical opportunities to use ServiceNow AI capabilities to improve employee experiences and operational efficiency.

Design governed solutions using capabilities such as Now Assist, Virtual Agent, AI Search, Predictive Intelligence, and workflow automation where appropriate.

Apply established Responsible AI, security, privacy, evaluation, monitoring, and auditability requirements to AI-enabled solutions.

Evaluate emerging platform capabilities and provide recommendations to senior architecture and product leaders.

User Experience and Process Design

Collaborate with UX teams, product owners, and business stakeholders to design intuitive, effective experiences.

Ensure workflows are efficient, understandable, accessible, and aligned with user needs.

Balance business requirements with technical constraints while protecting platform maintainability and the overall user experience.

Partner with UX and accessibility specialists to align solutions with enterprise design standards and applicable accessibility requirements.

Governance and Quality

Participate in architecture reviews, technical review boards, and platform governance processes.

Ensure assigned solutions adhere to established architecture, development, security, privacy, compliance, and operational support standards.

Contribute reusable assets, patterns, decision records, and lessons learned to the architecture practice.

Support platform health, technical debt reduction, upgrade readiness, and modernization initiatives.

Provide input to buy-versus-build assessments by evaluating ServiceNow native capabilities, custom development, integration complexity, risk, and maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

10 years of professional experience

7 years of software engineering, platform engineering, or solution architecture experience.

5 years of hands-on ServiceNow implementation, development, or architecture experience.

Strong understanding of ServiceNow platform architecture, configuration, development, administration, and upgrade considerations.

Experience with core ServiceNow capabilities such as Incident, Problem, Change, Request, Service Catalog, Employee Center, and workflow automation.

Strong integration background including REST APIs, web services, event-driven patterns, middleware, and enterprise integration concepts.

Experience designing solutions that span multiple applications, systems, data sources, or business processes.

Experience producing architecture diagrams, technical designs, integration specifications, data models, and other implementation-ready documentation.

Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and communicate recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.

Experience working within architecture governance, security, privacy, and software delivery controls.

Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools.

Strong communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills.
