Full job description
Description We are looking for a Collections Specialist to support account receivables activities for a long-term contract opportunity based in New York, New York. This position focuses on managing delinquent commercial accounts, resolving billing-related issues, and helping maintain accurate customer balances through careful follow-up and analysis. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work across teams while maintaining a detail-oriented and customer-focused approach.
Responsibilities:

Monitor overdue accounts and take appropriate next steps to escalate unresolved balances to external collection partners or legal channels in accordance with company guidelines.

Review customer account activity to address pricing discrepancies and prepare credit memo documentation that supports accurate account reconciliation.

Analyze aging reports to identify and clear minor outstanding balances while ensuring account records remain current and accurate.

Prepare and deliver recurring account status updates and monthly reporting for management review.

Verify that call and account documentation is complete and accurate so items can be finalized and released for billing.

Coordinate the release of maintenance and repair invoices requiring special handling and ensure they are processed correctly.

Communicate with customers and internal teams to resolve payment issues, research deductions, and support timely collection efforts. Requirements • At least 5 years of collections experience in a commercial environment.

Background in service-related or maintenance-based industries is preferred.

Associate degree is preferred, or equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence conversations effectively.

Demonstrated ability to stay organized, manage multiple priorities, and take ownership of assigned work.

Strong attention to detail with solid problem-solving skills, including experience with deduction review and account research.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability to build effective working relationships with customers, field teams, and internal staff while maintaining a strong business presence.
