Day-to-Day:

  • Lead selection and implementation of the SCADA, Historian, and HMI platform for a new manufacturing facility
  • Create site-wide standards for HMI design, alarm management, tag structures, and operator interfaces
  • Define how operators interact with equipment, alarms, and control room systems
  • Design data acquisition architecture, server infrastructure, historian strategy, and plant-wide SCADA connectivity
  • Review and approve OEM and integrator-delivered HMI and SCADA applications
  • Build and maintain communications between PLCs, SCADA, Historians, and MES systems
  • Own alarm philosophy, rationalization, and performance metrics
  • Drive OPC UA and MQTT data architecture initiatives
  • Support FATs, SATs, commissioning, and startup activities
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for SCADA, HMI, historian, and plant data issues Job Description: Insight Global is seeking a Senior SCADA/HMI Platform Engineer for a leading advanced manufacturing client in North Carolina. This individual will own the vision, architecture, and standards for the plant's SCADA, Historian, and HMI environment supporting a large-scale greenfield manufacturing expansion. The ideal candidate has experience selecting and implementing SCADA platforms, developing alarm management and HMI standards, and designing plant-wide data acquisition architectures. This is a highly visible technical leadership role focused on creating scalable operational technology solutions while serving as the primary interface between automation, manufacturing, system integrators, and equipment vendors.

Skills and Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
  • 7+ years of SCADA, HMI, and industrial automation experience
  • Hands-on experience with Ignition, FactoryTalk, Siemens WinCC, AVEVA, or similar SCADA platforms
  • Experience owning SCADA/HMI architecture, standards, and platform selection
  • Strong understanding of ISA-101 (High Performance HMI) and ISA-18.2 (Alarm Management)
  • Experience developing alarm philosophies, HMI standards, and tag/UDT structures
  • Experience with OPC UA and MQTT/Sparkplug architectures
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP and Profinet
  • Experience integrating PLC, SCADA, Historian, and MES systems
  • Understanding of SCADA licensing, redundancy, and high-availability architectures
  • Experience leading SCADA platform evaluations and vendor selection
  • Historian experience (PI, Canary, Ignition Historian, FactoryTalk Historian)
  • Experience with MES integrations and ISA-95 architecture
  • Python, C++, or scripting experience
  • REST API integration experience Heavy industrial, greenfield, automotive, aerospace, or defense manufacturing experience
