Job Description

Position Summary: Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant & Billing Specialist to join their growing Accounting & Finance team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who has a strong foundation in month-end close, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, and financial reporting, while also owning the customer billing process from invoice generation through collections support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end customer billing process, including invoice preparation, contract review, billing validation, and customer support.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and deferred revenue adjustments.
  • Maintain and reconcile revenue-related accounts in accordance with accounting policies and revenue recognition requirements.
  • Analyze customer contracts to ensure proper billing and revenue treatment.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and partner with customers to resolve outstanding balances.
  • Prepare financial schedules and supporting documentation for audits and management reporting.
  • Manage customer tax records and sales tax compliance activities.
  • Administer customer billing platforms and onboarding portals.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy across billing and accounting functions.
  • Support budgeting, expense management, and other accounting initiatives as needed.

Successful candidates typically come from small-to-mid sized companies where they have owned portions of the month-end close process, performed account reconciliations, worked with accruals and deferred revenue, and supported revenue recognition in addition to managing billing activities.

Title: Staff Accountant (Revenue & Billing) Location: Hybrid in Mount Arlington, NJ (Wednesdays and Thursdays onsite) Job Type: Direct-Hire Interview Process: 2 interviews (1 virtual and 1 in person) Salary Range: $60-75k Benefits: Candidate will be eligible for all benefits directly through the client.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience with exposure to both financial accounting and customer billing.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting month-end close processes.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing account reconciliations.
  • Understanding of accrual accounting, deferred revenue, and revenue recognition concepts.
  • Experience managing accounts receivable and customer billing functions.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in a SaaS or subscription-based business model.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Salesforce, and/or Maxio.
  • Knowledge of Avalara or sales tax compliance processes.
