Duties

Summary The Primary purpose of the position is to assist with the oversight and coordinate specialized developmental care for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age in the child development program. To serve as a senior educational technician and provide support and guidance to appropriated fund (APF) employees, nonappropriated fund (NAF) employees, and other employees as assigned. Facilitates appropriate instruction for children in assigned areas of responsibility. The incumbent may be designated as the supervisor on duty, as needed, in operation of the center during extended hours and in the absence of the Assistant Director and/or Director. Duties Explains team goals and objectives to assigned team members and assist team in organizing to accomplish work. Coaches, facilitates, solves work problems and participates in the work of the team. Provides age-appropriate developmental care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Ensures a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for all children. Prepares daily activities for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age that supports the inclusion of children with special needs. Special needs may include children/youth with or at risk of disabilities, chronic illnesses and physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions that require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children in general. Qualifications

Conditions Of Employment ( Cont) This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094. A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-01, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include Provides goals and/or objectives to assigned team members and assists team in organizing to accomplish work; serve as coach, facilitator, negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members; provide age appropriate developmental care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age; conduct equipment Inventory on a recurring basis and recommends replacing damaged, missing, or depleted supplies; attend to the physical needs of children such as diapering, feeding, toileting, resting, etc. as needed to support the program; serve as a facility safety monitor: conducts daily indoor and outdoor, fire, safety and health inspections of the facility prior to opening; ensure all known security violations are immediately reported to the proper authority when discovered; observe children and youth and documents developmental progression and/or concerns; prepare and reviews activities and modifies environment and ratios as prescribed by Inclusion Action Team to meet needs of children with special needs; initiate conferences with parents, as required. OR EDUCATION: Applicants must have four (4) years successfully completed education above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of comprehensive child development requirements, policies, procedures and processes. Knowledge of appropriate early childhood guidance practices, techniques and programs. 2. Knowledge of physical, intellectual, social, emotional and nutritional stages of development of young children in applying basic child development principles, concepts, practices to perform CDC operation assignments. 3. Skill in communicating factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing. 4. Ability to adapt planned activities for children's individual skills. 5. Ability to ensure the safety and hygiene of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space and proper management of equipment. 6. Ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; Ability and skill to lead subordinate employees and foster effective working relationship with others PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
