Full job description
Description
Are you energized by building strategies that shape how millions of customers discover and purchase products? As a Retail Vendor Manager III at Amazon, you will own the end-to-end profit and loss for a complex category cohort, driving selection growth, negotiating with vendor executives, and delivering results that directly impact the customer experience. This role puts you at the intersection of business strategy, financial analysis, and relationship management — where your decisions influence long-term category direction and create meaningful value for customers and the business alike. If you are a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity, excels at turning data into action, and is passionate about retail, we want to hear from you.
Key job responsibilities
-
Own the complete P&L for your assigned category cohort, analyzing key financial metrics such as revenue, margin, and cost structures to make strategic pricing and selection decisions that drive top-line and bottom-line growth.
-
Lead complex, independent negotiations with vendor leadership (including C-suite stakeholders) to improve terms, secure new selection, and build lasting partnerships that support long-term category strategy.
-
Develop and execute 2–3 year category plans informed by market research, competitive analysis, and customer insights, identifying opportunities for growth, customer acquisition, and brand building across your cohort.
-
Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as finance, marketing, and product to clear blockers, align on priorities, and deliver scalable process improvements that raise the bar for operational excellence.
-
Leverage generative AI tools and deep-dive data analysis to diagnose business health, uncover root causes, and generate actionable recommendations that enhance the customer experience and category performance.
A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing category performance dashboards and preparing a narrative document for an upcoming business review with leadership. By mid-morning, you are leading a negotiation call with a strategic vendor, working through pricing and assortment opportunities. After lunch, you connect with cross-functional partners to unblock a selection expansion initiative, then spend the afternoon mentoring a teammate on financial modeling techniques and refining your long-term category growth plan.
About the team
Our team is focused on delivering an exceptional retail experience for Amazon customers by managing vendor relationships and category strategies that shape what customers see and buy every day. We operate in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where analytical rigor meets creative problem-solving. We are looking for team members who are curious, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement as we work to grow selection, improve value, and set new standards for the retail experience.
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree
-
5+ years of account management, project or program management or buying experience
-
Knowledge of Microsoft Access or SQL
-
Experience driving internal cross-team collaboration
-
Experience using data to influence business decisions
