Job Title: Infection Preventionist IDepartment: Patient SafetyLocation: UMMC - 127 North Street Batavia, NY 14020 Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule: Monday - Friday; Between 7 am and 5 pm (flexible start and stop) SUMMARY: Supports the Infection Prevention Program for the assigned organization; serves as a liaison to all assigned organization departments/services. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to infection prevention. Advises on and facilitates appropriate allocation of hospital resources in order to maintain quality patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Conducts surveillance for HAI’s hospital onset and community acquired infections among patients and staff as appropriate for setting.• Interprets and reports data to the Associate Director of Infection Prevention or Senior Director of Infection Prevention as appropriate, and to other appropriate departments or personnel (hospital and/or health departments)• Prepares summary data for assigned units or departments and relays key measures, concerns, and prevention strategies • Monitors and evaluates patient care activities to identify methods, techniques, equipment, supplies, new products or specific procedures which may constitute an infection risk.• Investigates clusters of infection in collaboration with the Hospital Epidemiologist, Infectious Disease Physicians, and Senior Director of Infection Prevention or Associate Director.• Participates in infection prevention policy development, review, and revision using current standards of practice.• Notifies state or county health departments of specific communicable diseases as required by health department in accordance with RRH protocol.• Collect and enter data necessary for NHSN data reporting and other databases used in Infection Prevention.• Participates in development and provision of in-service programs related to Infection Prevention for the organization/departments/services for assigned organization.• Serves as a consultant regarding Infection Prevention issues and policies as appropriate.• Supports educational activities for Infection Prevention Liaison Committee.• Participates in assigned organization-based committees as appropriate• Available for urgent/emergent phone consultation per schedule during off hours and weekends.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor degree in health-related field (eg. Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health)
Required Licensure/Certification:
- If, BSN is held, Registered Nurse license in New York State and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary - Sedentary roles are primarily office-based and require prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting limited to under 10 lbs. Fine motor skills are necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use, supported by clear visual and auditory ability. Cognitive and emotional demands are high due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing. Although physical exposure is low, administrative areas within healthcare environments may occasionally involve contact with infectious agents. Some roles may require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver’s license.

$75,000.00 - $90,000.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
