Flight Software Engineer

Job Description

Our client is seeking a Flight Software Engineer to support the development of software for lunar spacecraft and communications systems under the Near Space Network Services program. This role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining flight software that enables spacecraft operations and hardware integration for missions supporting the Lunar Data Network. Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain flight software features in C/C++.
• Integrate software with spacecraft hardware and communication systems.
• Perform hardware/software integration testing, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
• Develop unit and integration tests and support system-level validation activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced spaceflight environment.

Skills and Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 2+ years of experience in C/C++ development
• 2+ years of experience with hardware/software integration
• Experience working in Linux/POSIX-based environments.
• Familiar with serial communications protocols (RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, etc.)
• Familiar with packetized communications protocols (IP/UDP, IP/TCP)
• Organized, thorough and methodical approach to software quality and testing
• Capable of both high quantity and high quality output
• Experience with GSFC Core Flight Software (CFS) framework
• Experience with device driver implementations
• Experience with SpaceWire communications protocol
• Experience with logging frameworks and their architecture
• Experience with xUnit compliant test frameworks
• Experience with Windows and POSIX-based operating systems
• Experience with Docker-based containerization
• Experience in an agile / scrum development environment
• Experience in Gitflow coordinated configuration management schemes
