Job Title: Junior Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on facility infrastructure engineering for aerospace manufacturing and launch operations. The mechanical engineer designs, evaluates, and improves mechanical systems that support critical facility operations, while driving reliability, safety, and energy efficiency across HVAC, utilities, and process systems.
Responsibilities

Design, evaluate, and improve mechanical systems that support aerospace manufacturing and launch operations.

Provide engineering support for HVAC systems, chilled water systems, cooling towers, compressed air systems, plumbing networks, fire protection systems, and process utilities.

Develop facility upgrade plans that enhance equipment reliability, capacity, safety, and energy efficiency.

Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications, scopes of work, and detailed technical reports.

Lead root cause investigations for equipment failures and recurring maintenance issues.
-
Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical infrastructure assets.
-
Analyze system performance data to identify opportunities for reliability and performance improvements.

Partner with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot mechanical issues impacting facility operations.

Manage equipment lifecycle planning, including refurbishment projects and replacement initiatives.

Support facility expansion, renovation, and infrastructure improvement projects from concept through execution.

Review engineering drawings, submittals, and contractor proposals for technical accuracy and completeness.

Coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders during project execution to ensure alignment and progress.

Monitor project schedules, budgets, and quality standards to ensure successful delivery.

Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with engineering specifications and safety requirements.

Provide on-call engineering support for critical facility systems to maintain operational readiness.

Support launch campaigns and manufacturing operations by ensuring facility systems are prepared and reliable.

Evaluate utility demands and develop solutions that maintain operational continuity during varying load conditions.

Assist in emergency response and incident recovery efforts involving mechanical systems and facility infrastructure.

Ensure mechanical systems comply with applicable safety, building, and environmental regulations and codes.

Participate in safety audits, hazard assessments, and process improvement initiatives.
-
Develop and maintain engineering documentation, procedures, and maintenance standards.

Support permitting, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities related to mechanical systems.
Essential Skills
-
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
-
3+ years of experience supporting industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, aerospace facilities, power generation, utilities, mission-critical environments, or large-scale commercial infrastructure.

Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, process piping, compressed air systems, pumps, heat exchangers, cooling systems, or facility utility infrastructure.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, mechanical schematics, and construction documents.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex mechanical and facility systems.
-
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or similar engineering design software.

Ability to work effectively in industrial environments such as rooftops, mechanical rooms, manufacturing facilities, and construction sites.

Solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including mechanical design and system integration.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience supporting mission-critical operations such as aerospace launch facilities or high-reliability manufacturing environments.

Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies for facility infrastructure.

Experience coordinating with contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams during construction and capital projects.

Comfort with field inspections, site verification, and hands-on interaction with mechanical equipment.

Strong written communication skills for preparing technical reports, specifications, and procedures.

Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities in a dynamic environment.
Work Environment
The role is based in a launch pad operations and facilities environment that supports aerospace manufacturing and launch activities. Work takes place across a variety of industrial settings, including rooftops, mechanical rooms, manufacturing facilities, and active construction sites. The position involves regular fieldwork around mechanical and utility systems, close collaboration with operations and maintenance teams, and participation in launch readiness and facility support activities. The environment is fast-paced and operationally focused, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and adherence to engineering standards.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Cocoa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
