Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Computing Services is searching for a Business Analyst, Associate. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an innovative and collaborative environment and is interested in applying emerging technologies to improve financial and administrative processes. The Business Analyst , Associate will contribute to initiatives involving artificial intelligence, automation, systems integration, and process improvement. Working closely with Computing Services teams, university divisions, and the campus community, this position will analyze business processes, identify opportunities for greater efficiency, and help design and implement practical technology solutions. Responsibilities include gathering and documenting requirements, evaluating processes and data, supporting solution design and testing, coordinating with technical and functional stakeholders, and assisting with implementation and change management activities.
The incumbent will participate in financial systems and technology projects, including AI and automation initiatives, Oracle upgrades, system enhancements, and other special projects. The position may also provide functional support for the Oracle E-Business Suite Financials system, including system configuration, troubleshooting, and assistance with complex or escalated questions; however, the primary emphasis of the role will be project-based work and the development of solutions that improve university operations.
The successful candidate will be analytical, technically inclined, curious, and comfortable learning new tools and technologies. An understanding of accounting, finance, or administrative operations is desirable. Experience with business analysis, process automation, artificial intelligence tools, data analysis, or enterprise systems is preferred, and experience with the Oracle E-Business Suite Financials system is a plus.
Your core responsibilities will include:

Assist with artificial intelligence, automation, and process improvement initiatives supporting financial and administrative operations. Learn and document existing business processes, help identify opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency, and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of practical technology solutions.

Assist with gathering, analyzing, and documenting business and functional requirements for financial systems and technology projects. Work with university stakeholders and senior team members to understand business needs, document current and future processes, evaluate relevant data, and translate business needs into clearly defined requirements.

Support the design, development, testing, and implementation of AI-enabled solutions, automated workflows, system integrations, and other technology enhancements. Assist with developing test plans and scenarios, coordinating user acceptance testing, documenting results, tracking issues, and confirming that solutions meet documented requirements.

Participate as a project team member in financial systems and technology initiatives, including Oracle upgrades, system enhancements, integrations, and other special projects. Assist with coordinating activities among Computing Services teams, university divisions, developers, vendors, and end users; track assigned tasks and issues; maintain project documentation; and support implementation and user adoption activities.

Research emerging technologies and, under the guidance of senior team members, explore their potential application to university financial and administrative processes. Assist with developing proofs of concept, evaluating results, documenting findings, and preparing recommendations for consideration.

Provide functional support for the Oracle E-Business Suite Financials system as assigned. Assist with analyzing issues, gathering information from end users, testing proposed solutions, coordinating with appropriate technical and functional resources, and documenting issues and resolutions in university-approved tracking systems.

Other duties as assigned.
