Full job description

Role: Mechanical Design Engineer - I Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India (On-site) Employment type: Full-time Industry: Space Technology

About Catalyx Space: We’re building AWS for space—providing in-space experiments and tech demos across LEO, deep space, and lunar orbit. Our offerings include unmanned labs, testbeds for rideshare and dedicated missions, and re-entry capsules for payload return. We simplify access with end-to-end solutions, no minimum mass limits, zero integration fees, and fast deployment (≤6 months), serving biopharma, semiconductors, materials science, defense, and more.

Role: As a Mechanical Design Engineer – I (MGSE & Ground Systems), you will take ownership of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE), test fixtures, and ground station hardware. You will design, develop, validate, and deploy ground station rotators and related mechanical systems, while also contributing to spacecraft integration and qualification campaigns. This is a hands-on role for engineers who want to work across both mechanical and electromechanical systems that directly support flight hardware.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and validate MGSE hardware, including integration fixtures, handling rigs, and test stands
  • Design, develop, and deploy ground station rotators and other ground-systems-related mechanical hardware
  • Create and maintain CAD models and detailed drawings in SolidWorks
  • Apply GD&T in compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups for sub-assemblies
  • Integrate electromechanical components such as motors, drivers, controllers, and sensors into ground systems
  • Participate in spacecraft integration activities and support assembly and test operations
  • Coordinate with vendors to fabricate and assemble MGSE and ground systems hardware
  • Support qualification test campaigns including vibration, thermal, and acoustic testing with hands-on involvement
  • Maintain accurate documentation and configuration records in PLM systems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Around 3 years of experience in aerospace structural design and integration
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 standards for drawings and tolerances
  • Experience with tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Basic knowledge of electronics integration, including motor drivers, controllers, and sensors

Nice to have:

  • Ability to take designs from CAD to deployed hardware
  • Strong interest in spacecraft integration and test support
  • Ability to own subassemblies end-to-end
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Compensation & benefits:

  • Competitive salary (details will be shared with shortlisted candidates),
  • health insurance
  • Provident fund.
