Job Summary

Collaborates with a Librarian Ill to support the coordination, preparation, implementation, and monitoring of library literacy programs in the Library System.

Representative Duties

Performs complex project support duties, including compiling and evaluating data, processing billing and grant reports, tracking project status, and coordinating literacy coach trainings and recruitment.

Participates in the development and preparation of grant applications, and coordinates submission of required reports and documents.

Assists with coordinating, implementing, and monitoring assigned literacy projects and programs. Conducts customer satisfaction and other studies and surveys, and recommends course of action to solve problems and improve delivery of services.

Participates in the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteer literacy coaches.

Schedules appointments, meetings, and trainings for students and volunteer literacy coaches.

Serves as a liaison to community agencies and other literacy groups, including serving on associated committees.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of public administration

Current office procedures, practices, and equipment

Modern office productivity software applications, including spreadsheets and word processing

Basic methods and techniques for administrative, financial, and comparative analyses

Basic mathematics

Report writing techniques

Principles of business English, spelling, punctuation, and grammar Principles and methods of conducting research

Principals of communication

Effective customer service techniques

Ability to:

Generate and review reports, data, studies, and surveys

Serve as a resource and provide information to the public and staff regarding various division projects and activities

Prepare clear and concise administrative and financial records and reports

Perform mathematical calculations

Establish, organize, and maintain manual and electronic filing, tracking, and recordkeeping systems

Compose informational materials for print and web posting

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Train staff and volunteers

Understand, interpret, and apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures

Interpret and apply applicable federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations

Exercise sound independent judgement within established policies and procedures

Plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and deadlines with attention to detail

Follow oral and written instructions

Respond to inquiries in a tactful manner

Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with City employees, outside agencies, and the general public

Provide effective customer service

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

Experience: Three years of paid, increasingly responsible work experience preparing and maintaining administrative, financial, fiscal, and statistical records and/or reports and performing financial support duties. An associate degree or 60 semester units from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience. Library experience is desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily indoors in a busy office environment. Office work requires sitting for prolonged periods of time and using a computer keyboard and screen. Physical demands include standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and grasping.
