Full job description
This position serves as a Section Accounting Technician for revenue accounting issues including pre-auditing financial documents, researching and analyzing revenue accounting issues, and preparing SIGMA transactions. This position reviews the Section’s processes and procedures and formulates recommendations to improve the Section’s accounting practices. This position assists in coordinating the month-end close for the State’s accounting system as well as providing technical assistance to Section Staff.
In addition, this position maintains and reconciles control records for revenue and receipts to bank transactions, reviews, analyzes and authorizes entries in SIGMA. Identifies, analyzes, and/or processes the following types of accounting transactions in SIGMA: recording of bank account transfers, electronic funds transfers (EFT), wire receipts for all agencies, and lockbox deposits, reconciling of credit card, and assist with cross training.
In performing these duties, the position is responsible for promoting and maintaining an environment conducive to continuous quality improvement and for encouraging new ideas, input, respect and teamwork.
Note: The "Salary" listed is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (7) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (10) level. Qualifying years of experience is counted post-bachelor's degree, if applicable. Candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they qualify for. The final salary amount is determined by the selected candidate's education and experience.

Education Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience Accounting Technician 7 One year of experience involving posting to ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, executing adjustments, and preparing financial statements equivalent to an Accounting Assistant E7.
Accounting Technician 8 Two years of experience involving posting to ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, executing adjustments, and preparing financial statements, including one year equivalent to an Accounting Technician 7 or an Accounting Assistant 8.
Accounting Technician E9 Three years of experience involving posting to ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, executing adjustments, and preparing financial statements, including one year equivalent to an Accounting Technician 8, two years equivalent to an Accounting Technician 7, or one year equivalent to an Office Supervisor with a subclass code of BKPS.
Accounting Technician 10 Four years of experience involving posting to ledger accounts, reconciling accounts, executing adjustments, and preparing financial statements, including one year equivalent to an Accounting Technician 9 or two years equivalent to an Office Supervisor with a subclass code of BKPS.Accounting Technician 7 Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) with at least 16 semester (24 term) credits in accounting courses may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Accounting Technician 8 Possession of an associate's degree with at least 16 semester (24 term) credits in accounting courses may be substituted for one year of Accounting Technician 7 experience.
Accounting Technician E9 Possession of a Bachelor's degree with at least 16 semester (24 term) credits in accounting courses and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement. Official Transcripts. For our purposes, "official college transcripts" must contain the college/university name and address, the degree conferred, and date granted, coursework completed (especially if no degree granted), the Registrar's signature and/or seal, and must be recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). A scanned or electronic copy is acceptable, as long as it contains the elements listed above. Review more information regarding official transcripts.
Foreign Transcripts. Applicants who possess a degree from a foreign college or university must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents unless the degree has been recognized by CHEA. Go to evaluators for a list of accepted organizations that evaluate foreign credentials. Failure to provide this evaluation at the time of application may result in you being screened out of the process. Work must be performed in the state of Michigan. To perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of the State of Michigan, you must commute to Michigan to perform the responsibilities and duties of this position at your official work location.
Remote Work. To perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you are a State of Michigan resident, this position is eligible to work remotely on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Additional onsite work may be required. Additionally, the selected candidate must have a secure, safe and appropriate designated workspace that allows privacy and prevents distractions while performing the duties of this position, as well as secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Remote work arrangements are subject to management approval and may be adjusted or discontinued at any time. Please note that remote work is not available if you reside outside of the State of Michigan.
E-Verify. The Michigan Department of Treasury participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Interviews. Interviews may occur virtually using Microsoft Teams. No prior experience with Teams is necessary, as instructions and tips will be provided to all candidates scheduled for an interview.
Fingerprinting. This position has a FTINPRINT sub-class code. The sub-class code indicates the position has access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and requires passing of a fingerprint-based background check per IRS Publication 1075.
