Full job description

Electrical Substation Designer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Substation Designer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting a diverse portfolio of industrial, utility, commercial, and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will lead the development of electrical design deliverables, prepare construction documents, and collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver high-quality solutions.

This position offers the opportunity to work on complex electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, protection and controls, and facility design projects from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed electrical designs, drawings, and construction documents for a variety of projects.

  • Create electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, plan layouts, power distribution systems, lighting systems, protection and control diagrams, and facility/site electrical designs.

  • Perform design calculations and equipment sizing for electrical systems and components.

  • Prepare and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other design software.

  • Analyze project requirements, specifications, reports, and test data to support design development.

  • Apply applicable industry codes, standards, and client requirements throughout the design process.

  • Review design deliverables for quality, accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project schedules and budgets.

  • Incorporate redlines, markups, and design revisions into project documentation.

  • Develop conduit and grounding layouts, panel wiring diagrams, and relay schematics.

  • Maintain organized project files, drawings, revisions, and documentation.

  • Coordinate effectively with project managers, engineers, designers, and clients to support project execution.

  • Communicate technical information clearly through written documentation and client interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant electrical design experience.

  • Associate/Bachelors in Drafting and Design or Engineering Technology a plus

  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong experience developing both 2D and 3D engineering drawings.

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical design principles, calculations, and systems.

  • Ability to interpret and apply electrical codes, standards, and specifications.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting utility, industrial, commercial, or infrastructure electrical projects.

  • Familiarity with power distribution, protection and control systems, grounding systems, and electrical equipment layouts.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to new software and design technologies.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maitland, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $53.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
