Full job description

The School Aide (also known as a Paraprofessional) supports teachers and staff by assisting with instructional activities, classroom management, and student supervision. The aide helps create a positive learning environment while providing additional support to students, including those with special needs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist the teacher with classroom instruction and daily activities

  2. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students

  3. Help reinforce lessons and assist students with assignments

  4. Support students with:

  5. Academic tasks

  6. Behavior management

  7. Social skills development

  8. Supervise students in various settings, such as:

  9. Classrooms

  10. Hallways

  11. Cafeteria

  12. Playground

  13. Assist with classroom organization and preparation of materials

  14. Help implement IEP accommodations and modifications under teacher direction

  15. Monitor and report student progress and behavior

  16. Maintain a safe and structured environment

  17. Assist students with basic needs (as appropriate), including mobility or personal care

  18. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators

Required Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Ability to work effectively with children and follow teacher directions

  3. Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree or some college coursework in education or related field

  2. Experience working with children or in a school setting

  3. Experience working with students with disabilities or behavioral needs

  4. Paraprofessional certification (if required by district or state)

Working Conditions

  1. School-based environment (classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.)

  2. Work with students across different grade levels

  3. Requires standing, walking, and active engagement throughout the day

  4. May assist in classrooms supporting students with various needs
