Job Title: SolidWorks Mechanical Designer (Contract)Job Description

This contract Mechanical Designer role focuses on supporting the development of advanced robotic, autonomous, and sensing systems. You will create, modify, and maintain detailed mechanical designs and drawings in SolidWorks, while ensuring accurate documentation and revision control within SolidWorks PDM. You will work closely with mechanical engineers throughout the product development lifecycle to translate concepts and requirements into manufacturable designs.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify mechanical part, assembly, and drawing files using SolidWorks.

  • Develop detailed engineering drawings for fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing.

  • Manage CAD files, revisions, and engineering documentation within SolidWorks PDM.

  • Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and design release activities.

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to refine design concepts and translate requirements into manufacturable solutions.

  • Perform drawing updates and maintain design documentation throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Ensure designs comply with drafting standards and manufacturing requirements.

  • Support prototype builds and integration activities as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design or CAD design roles.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, including part modeling, assemblies, and drawing generation.

  • Experience utilizing SolidWorks PDM for file management, revision control, and release processes.

  • Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).

  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and manufacturing requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documentation.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with mechanical engineers and cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related technical field.

  • Experience supporting prototype builds and integration activities.

  • Familiarity with drafting standards and best practices for manufacturability.

  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple CAD files and revisions.

  • Comfort working across the full product development lifecycle, from concept through release.

Work Environment

This is a contract role in a technology-driven engineering environment focused on advanced robotic, autonomous, and sensing systems. You will work primarily with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM to support design, documentation, and revision control. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pittsburgh, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
