Structured Cabling Technician
Melbourne, FL
Type: Contract To Hire
Compensation: $22 - $30/hr
Work Model: Onsite – onsite
Hours: 40.0 hours per week
System One is seeking a Structured Cabling Technician to join our team for a contract to hire opportunity in Melbourne, FL.
Responsibilities
-
Install horizontal structured cabling in commercial and construction environments, including Cat6, fiber, coax, and related cabling systems.
-
Install backbone and OSP (Outside Plant) cabling.
-
Pull, route, dress, and secure cable according to project specifications and industry standards.
-
Terminate copper and fiber cabling, including patch panels, jacks, connectors, and other network infrastructure.
-
Test and certify installed cabling using appropriate testing equipment.
-
Troubleshoot connectivity issues, cable faults, and installation deficiencies.
-
Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, cable schedules, and installation drawings.
-
Maintain clean and organized work areas and follow all applicable safety requirements.
-
Work closely with project managers, general contractors, electricians, and other trades to complete installations on schedule.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous experience installing structured cabling in commercial, industrial, or construction environments.
-
Experience with Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A, fiber optic, and coaxial cabling.
-
Experience with cable termination, testing, certification, and troubleshooting.
-
Fiber termination and splicing experience is highly preferred.
-
AV installation experience is a plus.
-
Ability to read blueprints and follow installation plans.
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
-
Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in construction environments as required.
-
Fiber testing and certification.
-
Fiber termination/splicing.
-
Fluke testing equipment.
-
Copper cable testing.
-
Backbone/OSP installation.
-
Commercial structured cabling.
-
Construction-site experience.
Work Environment
-
Commercial and construction environments.
-
May require working from ladders, lifts, ceilings, and other elevated areas.
-
May require travel to project sites depending on project needs.
-
Physical ability to lift and move cabling, tools, and equipment as required.
