The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Role Purpose

Summer engineering intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems. This is a dynamic position for an individual to work as part of Corning Advanced Optics’ mechanical design team. Focus will be to work on new designs for precision optical assemblies, optimizing fabrication and metrology methods in optical, mechanical, and assembly departments.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include mechanical design/engineering, new product introduction, process development / process control, design of experiments, modeling / analysis support of opto-mechanical systems.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • BS or MS Candidate

  • Coursework in Mechanical, Optical, Manufacturing, or Engineering Science.

  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of engineering tools such as Creo, Solidworks, MATLAB, or Visual Basic programming in Excel.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
