Job Description:

  • Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves for surgical procedures.

  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedures, displaying knowledge of procedure and patient positioning.

  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.

  • Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.

  • Helps in draping sterile field.

  • Passes instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedures.

  • Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures.

  • Prepares sterile dressings and cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.

  • Assists other team members with terminal cleaning of the room and prepping for the next patient.

  • Handles surgical specimens with 100% accuracy.

  • Recognizes and responds immediately to emergency situations appropriately.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care which addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety age appropriate needs of the patient populations served within the department. [Required]

  • Interpersonal skills [Required]

  • Completion of validation skills [Required]

  • Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field set-up [Required]

  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques [Required]

Education:

  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Field of Study:

  • Graduate of Surgical Technology Program

Work Experience:

  • 1+ prior or experience [Preferred]

Additional Information:

  • N/A

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

  • State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Preferred] OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Preferred] OR Technician in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) [Preferred]
