THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The District Attorney’s Office is seeking a highly capable and responsive Executive Assistant to serve as the direct administrative partner to the District Attorney. This is a high-trust, high-visibility position for a proactive, adaptable, dependable, and highly organized professional who takes pride in public service and thrives in a fast-paced law and justice environment. The ideal candidate anticipates needs, takes ownership of assignments, adjusts quickly as priorities change, and consistently follows through with accuracy, discretion, and professionalism.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and professional maturity are essential. The successful candidate will work closely with elected and appointed officials, law enforcement executives, attorneys, courts, County leadership, community partners, and the public, often on sensitive or high-profile matters. This individual will independently manage executive calendaring and meeting logistics; prepare correspondence, reports, agendas, briefing materials, and meeting packets; coordinate with justice partners and County departments; and remain flexible and responsive when operational needs require support outside normal business hours.

Because this position has access to highly confidential law enforcement, prosecutorial, personnel, and executive information, the selected candidate must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation prior to hire, similar in scope and depth to those used for sensitive law enforcement positions. For a professional who values accountability, public safety, meaningful public service, and the opportunity to work directly with the District Attorney, this position offers a unique opportunity to contribute at a high level and make a meaningful impact in El Dorado County.

10

You are finalizing materials the District Attorney needs for an important meeting later that afternoon. The District Attorney gives you a new assignment and indicates that it requires immediate attention. Completing the new assignment may affect another commitment that had previously been identified as a priority. What would you MOST likely do?

  • Continue completing the original assignment because it was identified as the priority first and begin the new assignment afterward.

  • Immediately stop all other work and begin the new assignment without considering its effect on the District Attorney’s meeting preparation or other existing commitments.

  • Ask the District Attorney to determine exactly how each of your existing assignments should now be prioritized before taking further action.

  • Confirm the critical objective and deadline for the new assignment, assess its effect on existing priorities, independently reorganize work that can appropriately be moved, communicate with affected parties as necessary, and promptly alert the District Attorney to any conflicts or consequences requiring executive judgment.

  • Continue working on both assignments simultaneously and attempt to complete everything without notifying anyone of potential conflicts unless a deadline is actually missed.

11

A person who regularly works with the District Attorney’s Office contacts you requesting information concerning a sensitive matter currently being handled by the District Attorney. The person says the information is urgently needed and indicates that the District Attorney normally shares information with them. What would you MOST likely do?

  • Provide the information because the individual has an established relationship with the Office and indicates that the District Attorney normally provides it.

  • Determine whether the individual is authorized to receive the information, consider the sensitivity of the requested information and applicable Office protocols, provide only information clearly authorized for release, and elevate the matter when authorization or appropriate disclosure is uncertain.

  • Refuse to provide any information and end the conversation because the matter is sensitive.

  • Take the individual’s contact information and refer every request involving confidential information directly to the District Attorney, regardless of whether established procedures authorize you to handle it.

  • Provide general information about the matter while withholding details you personally consider especially sensitive.

12

A high-level external stakeholder contacts the Office and is frustrated because the District Attorney is unavailable. The individual insists that the matter is urgent, becomes increasingly demanding, and wants you to interrupt the District Attorney immediately. What would you MOST likely do?

  • Interrupt the District Attorney immediately because a high-level stakeholder has stated that the matter is urgent.

  • Tell the stakeholder that the District Attorney is unavailable and instruct them to call back later.

  • Remain composed and professional, quickly assess the nature, urgency, sensitivity, and potential consequences of the matter; determine whether it can appropriately be resolved or routed without interrupting the District Attorney; and promptly elevate it when the circumstances warrant executive attention.

  • Take a detailed message and assure the stakeholder that the District Attorney will respond when available.

  • Transfer the stakeholder to another employee so that you do not have to determine whether the District Attorney should be interrupted.
