Full job description
This employee will be tasked with providing technical support and physical assistance to daily operations associated with Fisheries Region 3.
Job Duties Include: • Collecting fisheries data from lentic and lotic environments following prescribed protocols, recording and entering data into digital databases following prescribed protocols.
- Maintaining project equipment, workspace, buildings and grounds.
- Performing routine fisheries habitat enhancements.
- Processing biotic and abiotic samples in the field and laboratory using standard methods.
- Participating in agency sponsored public outreach activities and functions and assisting other section projects in conducting field activities as needed.
A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences. Experience with a variety of field sampling and data collection methods including telemetry, electrofishing, gill netting, trap netting and seining. Ability to age fish using scales and otoliths. Ability to field identify common fish species and to use a dichotomous key to identify all species of fish found in SC. Working familiarity with computer data entry and word processing. Ability to independently operate and trailer a powered watercraft and perform routine maintenance on outboard motors, boats and trailers. Ability to work in all weather conditions, and in all aquatic and wetland habitats found in SC. Ability to participate in night sampling and occasional overnight travel. Ability to swim and lift heavy objects.
