Full job description

About Primer Primer is a growing network of K–8 schools restoring the timeless foundations of American education. Inspired by the original teaching primers that shaped a nation of readers, thinkers, and builders, our schools begin with what has always worked, and build for what lies ahead. Close-knit learning environments. Skilled educators. A culture that takes kids seriously as learners and leaders. Primers shaped the first 200 years of American children. Primer will ready them for the next.

The Role Primer is looking to hire a Senior Accountant to help lead our Finance department into the next step of its evolution. You will own revenue recognition, lead our multi-entity consolidations, review AP, and jump into finance projects as we grow across a network that runs on PrimerOS. You'll report to the Controller and work closely with our CFO. This is a hands-on seat, not an oversight-only one.

What You’ll Do

  • Own monthly revenue recognition across our revenue streams (state scholarship/agency, tuition, aftercare, credits) under ASC 606, including deferred revenue schedules that tie to the GL.

  • Lead monthly consolidations across our state entities into one corporate roll-up, including flux analysis, inter-company eliminations, and tie-outs.

  • Review AP: card and bill coding, vendor reconciliations, and month-end accruals prepared by the broader team.

  • Run point on finance projects: new entity/campus setup, process builds, and ad hoc analysis for the Controller and CFO.

  • Work daily in Cowork (Claude) alongside NetSuite, Ramp, and Google Sheets: pulling data, building tie-outs, and automating the parts of close that shouldn't take up a person's time. It's been months since our team closed a set of books without it.

What You’ll Bring

  • 4+ years of accounting experience; CPA or actively pursuing preferred, though not mandatory.

  • Big 4 or public company experience and familiarity with processes and controls is preferred.

  • Real ASC 606 and multi-entity consolidation experience - you’ve closed multi-state or multi-entity books before.

  • NetSuite (or similar ERP) and advanced Excel/Sheets fluency.

  • AI-forward: process-building, utilization of AI for analysis and comfortability creating processes and automation.

Primer is a mission-first company. We believe our mission is the highest-leverage way we can create positive change. In service of that, we keep work centered on mission execution and avoid social or political activism at work that’s unrelated to the mission. If that energizes you, we’d love to see you apply.
