Full job description
Serves as Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer; works in the office reviewing requests that must be completed on a daily, weekly or monthly basis; performs related duties as assigned by the RME, DRME, or DEA.
Assists the RME and OSHA Officer in making sure employees are made aware of safety regulations applicable under "OSHA", as well as environmental and DHEC regulations that concern SCDOT.
Assists RME in supervising the maintenance of drainage structures, pavement repairs, and pavement markings on rights of way within Horry County Maintenance area. Assists in addressing complaints from the general public, county and city officials; monitors HMMS program.
Assists RME in supervising the use of state equipment including but not limited to trucks, mowers, motor graders, backhoes, ditchers, track hoes, and traffic control equipment. Also maintains the information in SCDOT computer programs.
Assists RME in conducting personnel meetings, recommend personnel changes, new hires, and/or disciplinary action whenneeded. Also assists in administative activities such as composing reports and letters, checking daily work reports, EMPS forms etc.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
