2027 Mechanical Engineer Intern

Description

As an intern with Textron, you’ll gain hands-on experience while exploring your interests and building new skills. You’ll be supported and challenged to contribute in meaningful ways – working on real projects alongside experienced professionals to prepare for future success.

Responsibilities:

  • Completion of assigned tasks to assist in the design and development of various mechanical or electrical systems, such as vehicle frame, steering, suspension, axles, drivelines, seating, roll cages, body panels, lighting, electrical harness and electrical system design, circuit board design, or microprocessor programming.

  • Work within defined project timelines to complete tasks according to project schedule.

  • Revise, review, and create functional specifications and engineering design standards.

  • Develop and design packaging layouts.

  • Create, test, and analyze plans for product validation.

  • Perform tolerance studies on components and assemblies.

  • Develop and release engineering components, assembly drawings, and vehicle bill of material.

  • Incorporate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) on engineering drawings.

  • Resolve and document design issues found during testing.

  • Participate in cross functional design reviews and Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Assessments on Components & Assemblies.

Qualifications

  • Education: pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Electrical Engineering or another related field required

  • Software Knowledge: Microsoft Office applications, CAD, Visual Basic or other programming languages preferred, Matlab

Candidates should be comfortable learning and applying these tools, evaluating AI-generated output with sound judgment, and using AI in line with company policy and ethical standards. Prior experience with specific tools is not required — we value curiosity, adaptability, and good judgment.
