Summary

The Radiology Department is currently seeking a Lead Ultrasound Technician to add to their team. The incumbent will be responsible for leading the technical services provided by the Ultrasound section in the Diagnostic Radiology Department. Duties

  • Distributing and balancing the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assuring timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assuring that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
  • Instructing employees in specific tasks and job techniques and making available written instructions, reference materials and supplies.
  • Amending or rejecting work not meeting established standards, referring to the supervisor questions or matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting performance standards.
  • Reviewing provider requests for ultrasound for complete information on the examinations requested, resolves most discrepancies independently or refers questions to radiologist(s).
  • Providing a preliminary written summary and ability to replicate and demonstrate to staff radiologist or the requesting clinician findings on the ultrasonic images.
  • Independently performs standard as well as specialized diagnostic and vascular ultrasound procedures using techniques in accordance with established protocols and in coordination with radiologists and referring providers.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Lead Medical Instrument Technician (Ultrasound), GS-0649 position at the GS-10 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1.)training ultrasound technicians in new or changing ultrasound instrumentation procedures; 2.) conducting quality control procedures on diagnostic ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal functionality; 3.) performing diagnostic and vascular ultrasound examinations and presenting clinical findings to radiologist or requesting clinician; 4.) maintaining and updating patient records with test results; and 5.) performing quality assurance activities to assess the accuracy and quality of ultrasonic images. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay. This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage. If selected, you will be covered by a bargaining unit (union). A newly appointed or reappointed individual may receive a recruitment incentive. Recipients will be determined on a case-by-case basis based on organizational need, specific case justification, and budget limitations. The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion. It may involve walking, frequent bending, reaching and stretching to set up and take apart equipment; lifting and positioning patients; and carrying, pushing, or pulling moderately heavy objects. Technicians perform the work in a setting involving regular and recurring exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, odors and other risks which require special health and safety precautions such as wearing protective clothing such as gloves or masks.
