Job Description

This individual will be responsible for leading and developing a high-performing estimating department while overseeing major commercial mechanical and plumbing estimates across healthcare, data center, and other large-scale complex construction projects. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of executive-level leadership, deep mechanical estimating expertise, and a collaborative personality capable of influencing stakeholders across the organization. This role will manage a team of 8-10 estimators, establish departmental processes and performance metrics, and ensure the company consistently delivers accurate, competitive, and profitable bids. The position offers substantial visibility with executive leadership and presents a long-term succession opportunity as the current leader transitions toward retirement. Candidates with extensive hospital project experience, large-scale project estimating expertise, and a strong mechanical subcontractor background will be highly successful in this role.

Lead and manage the estimating department and daily workflow Supervise a team of approximately 8-10 estimators and support staff Create and manage weekly bid schedules Assign estimating responsibilities and ensure deadline adherence Review and approve all estimates for accuracy and compliance with bid documents Maintain and update pricing databases, supplier multipliers, and cost data Train, mentor, and develop estimating team members Conduct performance evaluations and career development planning Develop, implement, and enforce estimating SOPs and best practices Establish department KPIs and performance metrics Partner with Business Development, Engineering, BIM, and Operations teams Lead risk analysis, scope reviews, constructability reviews, and estimate validation Oversee and take responsible charge of estimates up to $50M Support executive leaders in strategic pursuit decisions and preconstruction planning

Skills and Requirements

15+ years of experience estimating mechanical and plumbing construction projects 5+ years of experience as a Senior Estimator within commercial construction Leadership experience managing and developing estimating teams, including direct reports Experience overseeing estimates for large-scale projects ranging from $20M-$100MStrong healthcare/hospital project experience (80% of business is healthcare) Experience with large, complex mechanical construction projects Mechanical subcontractor background (required at some point in career) Experience with data center projects Ability to sit alongside Executive Leadership and drive strategic estimating initiatives Technical College Degree Journeyman Plumber or Pipe Fitter background Experience building estimating processes, SOPs, and performance metrics Healthcare market relationships and industry network Experience creating pricing databases and supplier multiplier strategies Previous responsibility for departmental budgeting and workforce planning Relocation flexibility
