Full job description

Laboratory Supervisor

Clean Harbors is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily laboratory operations and perform routine and complex sample analysis. This role leads laboratory staff, maintains testing quality and certifications, and ensures analytical work supports facility permits and discharge requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and support laboratory staff; provide performance feedback and participate in hiring and other personnel decisions.

  • Analyze samples to determine their chemical and physical properties, troubleshoot complex results, and develop methods for new testing needs.

  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments, coordinate vendor service, and recommend equipment repairs or replacements.

  • Ensure testing is completed on schedule and meets applicable quality assurance and quality control standards.

  • Maintain required laboratory certifications, accurate records, supplies, and relationships with outside laboratories.

  • Investigate results that fall outside required specifications and help resolve testing issues.

  • Manage waste generated by laboratory procedures and maintain a safe work environment in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.

  • Implement and provide training under the Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field required.

  • Five to seven years of laboratory experience, including a strong understanding of chemical testing and laboratory operations.

  • Leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with a team.

  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications and laboratory systems.

  • Required OSHA, DOT/RCRA, and other applicable training and credentials. IATA certification is required where applicable and approved by Clean Harbors Transportation Compliance.

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, with reasonable accommodation where applicable. Travel is less than 10%.
