Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Laboratory Systems and Response, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Biologist, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Conducting laboratory studies by processing and analyzing biological specimens, modifying established methods as needed, documenting results, and preparing scientific reports to support public health investigations. Conducting laboratory experiments by preparing study materials, operating and calibrating laboratory instruments, adapting procedures as needed, and evaluating experimental results to ensure accurate and valid data. Preparing and communicating scientific findings by developing reports, presentations, publications, and data visualizations, maintaining laboratory records, and providing training on laboratory procedures and equipment. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualifications: You must possess one of the items listed below. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following: Processing biological specimens, conducting laboratory analyses, and documenting scientific findings using established laboratory procedures and quality standards. Performing laboratory experiments using established scientific methods, operating analytical instrumentation, and evaluating test results to support scientific research or public health investigations. Preparing scientific reports, maintaining research documentation, and communicating laboratory findings through written, oral, or graphical formats for technical or scientific audiences. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
