Full job description

Summary:

As part of the Fleet Operations, Reliability and Central Engineering (“FORCE”) team at Meta, the IC2 Data Center Technician is an entry-level position. This role is designed for individuals beginning their careers in technology or data center operations, with a focus on learning foundational technical skills, following established procedures, and supporting the reliability of Meta’s global server fleet.

Required Skills:

Data Center Technician Responsibilities:

  1. Basic understanding of computer and network hardware, including cabling (personal, academic, or hobbyist experience).

  2. Willingness to learn and follow detailed instructions, MOPs, and standard operating procedures.

  3. Strong attention to detail and reliability in task execution.

  4. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

  5. Perform routine physical checks of server and network hardware (including cabling) and assist with basic troubleshooting.

  6. Follow documented procedures (MOPs) to support server hardware replacements, network hardware reseats/swaps, and repairs.

  7. Perform physical cabling tasks — fiber/copper connections, optic (transceiver) reseats and swaps, and cable cleaning — as directed.

  8. Assist with ticket resolution by gathering requested information and escalating issues as needed.

  9. Participate in physical inspections of server and network hardware in data halls (including serial number and power verification) as directed.

  10. Maintain accurate records of work performed, including updates to checklists and logs.

  11. Support the team in maintaining server and network uptime and reliability by responding promptly to assigned tickets.

  12. Accurately pull and manage inventory (optics, cables, server spares) according to established processes and update inventory systems promptly.

  13. Communicate clearly with team members, and escalate issues when outside of scope or expertise.

  14. Participate in training and development activities to build technical skills.

  15. Adhere to safety and security protocols at all times.

  16. Physically assist with moving and racking server and network equipment for projects and operational needs.

  17. Routine operation of hand and power tools (such as drills, screwdrivers, safety cutters, and lifts) to support installation and maintenance tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Basic hands-on experience with computer or network hardware/cabling (personal, academic, or professional)

  3. Willingness to learn about Linux, basic networking concepts, and repair procedures

  4. Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures

  5. Ability to work under close supervision, with tasks/tickets assigned and reviewed by their Manager/Team Lead

  6. Effective verbal and written communication skills

  7. Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and move at least 50 pounds (22 kg)

  8. Capable of walking long distances and standing for extended periods throughout the day

  9. Willingness to work extended shifts in a data center environment, including exposure to temperatures ranging from 79°F to 105°F (26°C to 40°C), while maintaining proper hydration

  10. Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays

  2. Exposure to basic networking concepts (e.g., IP addresses, DNS, switches, optics/transceivers, structured cabling)

  3. Interest in developing server and network technical skills over time

  4. Curiosity and a willingness to learn are highly valued

Public Compensation:

$70,990/year to $83,990/year + bonus + equity + benefits
