Role: Director of Provider & Clinical Outreach

Location: Carlsbad Medical Center

Schedule: Day shift hours with after hours availability.

Job Summary

The Provider and Clinical Outreach Director supports hospital growth initiatives by fostering relationships with providers, community agencies, and other sites of care; aligning outreach activities with market strategies; and supporting service line growth. This role collaborates with hospital leadership, service line teams, and outreach staff to enhance access to care, promote provider engagement, and address barriers to satisfaction. Through strategic outreach and data-driven insights, the Director contributes to organizational growth objectives and improvements in the overall healthcare delivery experience.

Essential Functions

  • Leads outreach activities focused on developing relationships and increasing satisfaction among providers, ancillary patient care sites, acute care sites, and community partners, including Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and fire agencies.

  • Collaborates with hospital leadership to plan and execute strategic service line growth initiatives, leveraging data to identify opportunities, establish priorities, and track progress.

  • Develops monthly, quarterly, and annual strategic outreach objectives in coordination with Regional or Market Provider Relations and hospital leadership to support market strategies and initiatives, including strategic partner roster management, key performance indicator (KPI) tracking, and outreach activity planning.

  • Conducts outreach to providers, including physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, as well as EMS agencies, post-acute care facilities, and other community partners, to promote collaboration and identify growth opportunities.

  • Ensures timely documentation of provider interactions, feedback, and barriers in the Provider Relationship Management (PRM) system to support strategic outreach planning, tracking, and reporting.

  • Participates in growth meetings with hospital leadership, Physician Practice Services (PPS), Accountable Care Organization (ACO) teams, and service line leaders to address provider and outreach engagement, service delivery challenges, and growth opportunities.

  • Provides insights to hospital and regional leadership regarding provider preferences, service line trends, and opportunities for operational improvement based on data analysis and outreach activities.

  • Collaborates with Regional and Market Directors of Provider Relations to align growth strategies, share best practices, and address market and regional trends.

  • Supports hospital leadership in reviewing and adjusting growth and expansion plans based on market dynamics, provider needs, and outreach insights.

  • Supports EMS and Transfer Center initiatives and events, including annual surveys, EMS Week activities, and educational symposiums.

  • Partners with Medical Staff Development and Recruitment to support onboarding and engagement of new providers through outreach activities.

  • Represents the hospital in market, regional, and corporate Provider Relations meetings to support strategic alignment, training, and professional development.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Staff Management

  • Provides leadership, mentorship and professional development opportunities for departmental staff.

  • Schedules employees to ensure effective use of resources. Consults with leadership on any potential staffing issues.

  • Conducts performance evaluations, sets goals and provides feedback to staff on their performance and development.

  • Strategic Planning and Financial Oversight

  • Collaborates with hospital leadership to set the strategic direction for the department, including budgeting, resource allocation and long-term planning.

  • Monitors expenditures, ensuring cost-effective delivery of services.

  • Evaluates and implements new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures and protocols to optimize quality and overall efficiencies.

  • Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies. May oversee the accreditation process with relevant agencies ensuring that services meet or exceed industry standards.

  • Participates in audits, inspections and accreditation processes as applicable.

  • Follows established quality control practices to ensure accuracy, consistency and safety.

  • Collaboration and Communication

  • Works closely with leadership teams to coordinate and improve service delivery.

  • Stays up-to-date with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes.

  • Staff Responsibilities

  • May work in a staff role, when required. Ensures that duties and responsibilities are fulfilled while meeting all competencies established for that job.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required or

  • Seven (7) plus years of direct experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree required

  • Master's Degree preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience in closely related field with Bachelor's degree required

  • 3-5 years of previous leadership experience preferred

  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft platforms, healthcare software systems, and data analysis tools.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure preferred or

  • EMT - Emergency Medical Tech preferred or

  • PARAMEDIC - Paramedic – Licensed preferred or

  • PTA - Physical Therapist Assistant preferred
