Fill Technician

Job Description

This role supports a high-volume pharmacy by accurately preparing, packaging, and labeling medications while maintaining strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The pharmacy technician works with automated dispensing equipment, supports inventory and supply management, and helps ensure timely delivery of medication cycles for patients and care facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately retrieve, count, measure, prepare, package, and label medications in accordance with prescriptions and facility requirements.

  • Operate, monitor, and properly maintain pharmacy equipment related to dispensing duties, including the SynMed Ultra system.

  • Package prescriptions according to the specific requirements of facilities and individual patients, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Work each day to meet established deadlines for medication cycle delivery and support on-time distribution to all assigned facilities.

  • Assist in maintaining and managing pharmacy supplies, including monitoring stock levels and notifying appropriate staff of replenishment needs.

  • Clean and assist in the maintenance of equipment and work areas to support a safe, organized, and compliant pharmacy environment.

  • Assist in maintaining proper storage conditions for medications, including temperature and security requirements for drug inventory.

  • Support the security of drug inventory by following established procedures for handling, storing, and documenting medications.

  • Perform pharmacy-related tasks such as fill prescriptions, support order entry processes, and assist with insurance-related activities as needed.

  • Collaborate with pharmacy team members to resolve issues, improve workflow efficiency, and uphold high standards of patient care.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to accurately retrieve, count, measure, prepare, package, and label medications with strong attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in operating and properly maintaining automated pharmacy equipment, including SynMed Ultra or similar systems.

  • Experience supporting fill prescriptions, order entry, and basic insurance-related pharmacy tasks.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet daily medication cycle delivery deadlines.

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and pharmacy protocols for medication preparation, storage, and security.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Active Minnesota Pharmacy Technician registration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technician training certificate of completion from an accredited institution or college, or a signed certificate of completion from an employer, preferred.

  • Prior experience in a long-term care (LTC) pharmacy setting preferred.

  • Familiarity with dispensing and filling workflows in a high-volume pharmacy environment.

  • Comfort working with automated dispensing systems such as SynMed Ultra.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with pharmacists and other pharmacy staff.

Work Environment

This position is based in a pharmacy dispensing and filling environment that supports long-term care and other care facilities. Two shift options are available: a first opening from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with work every third weekend, and a second opening from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with work every third weekend. The role involves regular use of automated dispensing technology, including SynMed Ultra, and requires standing for portions of the shift, working at pharmacy workstations, and handling medication inventory. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and security standards for drug storage and handling. These positions are structured as temporary contracts to cover bonding leaves, with a strong likelihood of transition to contract-to-hire if permanent openings arise, as the dispensing and filling team experiences natural attrition and hires regularly.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
