Summary

This position is in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Human Resources Directorate, Personnel Services Division. The Directorate provides human resources support to the Office of the Secretary of War (OSW) and those Defense Agencies and Department of War (DoW) field activities WHS administratively supports. The Personnel Services Division provides recruitment, placement, and classification services for the Principal Staff Assistants in the OSW, WHS, and other supported DoW activities.

Duties

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Performs a variety of technical support work for complex classification matters. Codes/ and or enters position data into the system. Responds to procedural and factual inquiries from managers and employees on a wide range of HR topics. Participates with specialists developing training materials and identifying process improvements. Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) demonstrating: 1.) Maintaining program logs and supporting documentation. 2.) Preparing and delivering oral presentations. 3.) Developing and preparing a variety of written materials. To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector demonstrating: 1.) Resolving minor discrepancies and referring more complex issues back to requester. 2.) Participating with specialists in identifying circumstances, such as candidates with restrictions and/or placements that require negotiations. 3.) Maintaining automated data files and conducts periodic reviews files and databases information to ensure the accuracy of elements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Education

Substitution of Education for Experience at the GS-05 level : Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. GS-06 Substitution of Education for Experience: Six months of graduate education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements when the education is directly related to the position being filled. GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
