The Critical Care Transport/Flight Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct patient care and clinical aspects of the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services Critical Care Transport Program. The CCT PHRN will report directly to the CCT Program Nurse Manager, and under the authorization of the St. Luke’s Emergency and Transport Services Medical Director provide care and treatment with an advanced scope of practice in accordance with the following Pennsylvania Department of Health 1027.39. Critical care transport ambulance ser vice, 1027.40. Air ambulance service and New Jersey Department of Health Office of Emergency Medical Services Specialty Care Transport Unit NJAC 8:41-1.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.

Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.

Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.

Organizes, coordinates and prioritizes patient care consistently utilizing available resources.

Maintains an awareness of unit budget.
-
Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to co-workers.

Takes active role in unit-based performance improvement.

Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs.

Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.

Participates in identifying unit needs and supports unit goals and objectives that contribute to the growth of the Patient Services Department.

Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.

Collaborates with other caregivers to assure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts.

Other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sit up to 4 hours per day; 2 hours at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 20 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 25 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transports patients weighing up to 800 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to work in confined or restricted spaces. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision. Must be able to tolerate aircraft and vehicle vibration, noise, altitude changes, temperature variation, weather exposure, odors, motion, and unpredictable operational environments. Safely enter, exit, and work in rotor-wing, fixed-wing, ambulance, hospital, roadside, helipad, airport, and other transport environments. Meet all occupational health, medical screening, fit testing, and program-specific physical requirements.
Employees assigned to flight duty must successfully complete an annual fit-for-duty medical examination and meet all aviation operational requirements. This includes compliance with aircraft weight and balance restrictions, which currently require flight crew members to maintain a body weight of 230 pounds or less in accordance with operational safety standards.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of New Jersey or Current Unrestricted Registered Nurse Compact license allowing the employee to practice nursing in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Current Pennsylvania Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) certification. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Candidate must meet one of the following criteria: (a) three years or 4,000 hours of In-Hospital Adult Intensive Care Unit Experience or (b) one year or 2,000 hours of In-Hospital Adult Intensive Care Unit Experience, with three years or 4,000 hours of Emergency Department Experience in a high-acuity emergency department. Preference will be given to candidates with Level I or Level II Trauma Center, tertiary care ICU, ground critical care transport, or previous air medical experience.
Current BLS, PALS, ACLS certification required. Must attain specialty board certification in Critical Care Transport nursing such as CFRN or CTRN within 12 months of hire date. EVOC/EVDT certification with EMSVO endorsement upon hire. Driver requirements (PA DOH Requirement): (a) Be at least 18 years of age, (b) have a valid driver's license, (c) must observe all traffic laws, (d) must not be addicted to, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and (e) must be free from any physical or mental defects or disease that may impair the person's ability to drive an ambulance.
Hazardous materials R & I certification or higher, preferred. PHTLS certification preferred. NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, or 800 preferred. Radio communications skills; office skills including typing. Excellent organizational skills; pleasant telephone manner. Ability to perform job with a minimum of direct supervision. Must successfully complete clinical and operational orientation in order to be granted unrestricted medical command. Tact courtesy, initiative, judgement, and the ability to follow directions is required. Experience in computer operations. Must successfully complete the following courses within 24 months of hire: (a) Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN), (b) Fundamentals for Critical Care Support (FCCS), (c) Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC), and (d) Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).
